The standard format for this response is as follows: a.
Introductory paragraph(s)
working up to a thesis statement. Your thesis
statement– the central idea or the topic in a sentence or two, carries
your essay (as much as the paragraphs beyond the introductory one(s) have to
elaborately explain the points of your
thesis statement). Your introductory
paragraph(s) create the background and context that contribute to and prepare
the readers for your thesis statement. So, your introductory paragraph(s) usually
culminate in your thesis statement. Please underline your thesis statement presented at the end of your introductory
paragraph(s). b. Subsequent body paragraphs for expanding
the points of the thesis statement. Points are to be expanded sequentially. One or more body paragraph(s) may develop one
point. As you venture to organize a
certain body paragraph with a view to developing a point of the thesis statement, you do so by offering
a topic sentence stating the general rationale of the point—the rest of the
body paragraph(s) elaborate the general rationale by your argument in terms of
specific evidence and viable explanation. Maintain transition as you go from one body
paragraph to another. c.
Concluding paragraph(s). Your conclusion sums up your essay, and
reasserts/rephrases the thesis. You may
choose to leave a final remark articulating an appeal, an opinion, a quotation
or such. Do not introduce any new
information or idea here!
