Written Cultural Paper Requirements:

Select a Deaf Culture article from the “American Annals of the Deaf” that is of interest to you and published in the last 5 years.
Articles/Topics NOT allowed:

Introductions to Content
Write a review/summary of the research article with a minimum of 800 words in the introduction, body and conclusion of the paper (excluding your heading, header, title, and Works Cited from the word count). This is to be written objectively with the concluding paragraph explaining how it relates-to/affects the Deaf Community/Culture and you opinions about the article.

If you do an internet search, enter “MLA guidelines,” you select the owl.purdue website and following the directions for format and references. (A sample Works Cited is also below.) NOTE: MLA requires a Works Cited.
Your paper should summarize the research article including any controversy surrounding the subject, different perspectives not covered in the article that you may be aware of, relevance to Deaf culture and whether there are any implications for mainstream society. Only include comments on these issues if they exist. Be sure to note what conclusions the authors reached, any significant recommendations for future research or application of research findings, etc.
Your Works Cited must be in the format provided in the sample below. If you do not provide any of the following information, your paper may not be graded or will have points taken off for incomplete work. Your Works Cited must provide the doi which can be found in the PDF view of your article on the first or second page.

In the “Search our Collections” type in “American Annals of the Deaf”
Log into the OKTA system. Your login is your student email address excluding everything after and including the @ symbol. Use your personal password.
Click on American Annals of the Deaf (Online)
Click on EBSCOhost CINAHL Plus with Full Text.
Do NOT click on “Search within this Publication” Instead click on the year required that is on the right of the screen, it will show you the journals for that year. Browse through the journals to find an article. (This is due to the refined search results showing articles outside of the AAD.)
Make sure to review your article using the PDF version in order to get the page numbers and doi information that is required in MLA formatting (If you do not see the doi, click back and click on the title of the Article. The doi should be a piece of information on the article details). Your Works Cited must include the author(s), title, journal name, volume, number, page number(s), and doi.
