Please respond to the following prompt in a thesis-driven essay of at least 5 paragraphs. Your essay must reference (in a parenthesis or a footnote) at least 5 sources drawn from the American Yawp chapters or documents in the American Yawp Reader, materials linked or posted to the Blackboard page, or lecture notes for weeks 1-16 of this course. The best essays will consult several types of sources. Do NOT do additional research for this essay.
1. Scholars have debated and discussed the importance of the American Revolution. In this quest to understand the importance of this event, they have asked if the American Revolution was a radical revolution (i.e., completely overturning the social order, along the lines of the revolutions in France or Haiti), or if the Revolution was essentially conservative (preserving many or most elements of the past). NOTE: in this context, “conservative” and “radical” do not refer to modern-day partisan conflicts. In your educated opinion, was the Revolution truly radical? As you answer this question, you may wish to consider the causes, progress (on the battlefield or otherwise), and ultimate outcome of the Revolution. Supply as much concrete evidence in support of your argument as you can.
These are the links to the two textbooks that should be used and cited as the 5 resources.
