It is inarguable that the United States federal government of today has more responsibility, spends vastly more money, and is more directly involved in the lives of ordinary Americans with respect to domestic policy today than it was at the time of its founding. The same can easily be argued in terms of American foreign policy and how it affects Americans and the world. For some, this increase in power has meant greater equality and opportunity, for others the focus has been on a loss of local freedom to a central authority. Here is my question to you:
1. What should the role of the United States federal government be? What types of public policies should the federal government enact, enforce, or eliminate? Should the federal government have more power or less power in domestic and foreign policy? Why? Be specific and offer examples.
