An Argument for your major (Middle Level Education Major)

In
order to successfully complete this assignment you will first need to analyze your
choice of major using the elements. This
step will require that you examine the logic of your major, in the manner that
Nosich demonstrates in Chapter 3, and that you examine your own circumstances,
including background, life goals, etc using the elements. Once you have done that you should be able to
argue that your major is the right choice for you. If you find yourself unsure about a major,
you can use this assignment to explore a discipline that you are
considering.

In
a 800-1000 word essay, you will demonstrate that your choice of major is well
reasoned. Your essay must clearly locate
the reader mentally, establish your voice of authority and take a stance. Your stance must be supported from at least
three perspectives (Psychologically-how are you emotionally matched to your
field?, Sociologically-what will your career require of you in terms of the
people you will be working with on a daily basis? where might you have to live
to pursue a career in this field? Economically-what
might you expect to earn and what will that mean to your goals of family or
lifestyle? Politically-will you be able to do work that matches your views on
service to your society, your country, humanity?, etc) and your argument must
include a concession/refutation. These
parts are explained in the Argument powerpoint lecture.

You
may write this essay using the first person “I”, but you should always avoid
the second person “you” in academic arguments.
Additionally, I would like for you to avoid the use of questions in your
paper. Too often our questions are
rhetorical and can lead to misunderstanding of important points. Think about the point you are trying to make
with a question and make the point in a statement instead. It will make your writing stronger.
