General Steps to Follow
• After carefully studying this document, review my feedback on your topic identification CT activity
o If you did not submit it on time and have not received my feedback, it would be in
your best interest to email me for assistance ASAP, noting that my ability to help
might be limited at this point.
• Take a look at the relevant sections in the textbook and the lecture notes, as appropriate.
• Then, view the video, taking notes as you deem appropriate, with your chosen context in mind.
• Think about how best to construct your own method/program of motivating participation in the
chosen context.
• Outline your paper based on the above, making sure that:
o You “hit” all of the required dimensions as outlined in the rubric (at the end of this
document).
o Your outline has an intro, a middle (i.e., main analysis), and a concluding section.
o You justify why your method/program would be effective, using the info from the textbook,
lectures, the video, and any supplemental materials to substantiate your proposed
method/program.
Be sure to CITE your sources, both in-text and as a list at the end!
I’d recommend that you use the method of CT, especially decomposition as we
practiced it in class, to make sure you develop a convincing argument.
• If you are in doubt, you should consult with me ASAP, keeping in mind that, the longer you wait to
consult with me, the less effective I’d be at helping you.
Resources Allowed
Our textbook, the lecture notes, and the video should be sufficient as your reference for this paper, and
please be sure to cite specific sections of the textbook, the lecture, or the video. You must cite all sources properly.
You may not use resources such as Internet search engines (e.g., Google, Bing, etc.)—or the Internet in
general (e.g., Wikipedia or a website by a Yoga Studio, sports psychologist, educational consultant, etc.
etc.).
The Format and Length of the Paper
This academic paper should be written as an analytical paper rather than an essay that is strictly based
on your opinions, beliefs, personal conviction, or random reflections.
2,000 worlds is roughly 3.8 single-spaced pages or 7.6 double-spaced pages. Your paper should not be
longer than 2,200 words. The Writing Intensive requirements are enforced based on word counts rather
than page numbers.
Please include the word count at the end of your paper (exclusive of the title, your name, etc. as articulate
in the beginning of this document). The title page is optional. There are no style requirements, as long as
your paper looks professional; however, if you’d like, it is recommended that you use APA, Chicago, or
AMA Style.
Use of short headings or subheadings within your paper is recommended, but please be sure not
to use up too much space on them.

Talk about the significance of your chosen context/topic
Talk about issues of motivation—paying attention to both initiating motivation AND
sustaining motivation.

• Detailed descriptions of the method/propose to maximize motivation in the field of your choice.
What the method/program looks like
Why you think it could be applied effectively to the context of your choice
How specifically you would apply it to the field of your choice
Expected outcomes
Considerations for individual and group differences
• General discussion and conclusions
o A general discussion on how the methods/program of optimizing participant motivation in
the chosen context would be useful in enhancing participant motivation.
o Instead of relying primarily on your personal opinions, you should interpret and synthesize
the information from the textbook, the lectures, the video and the reference(s) to discuss
implications for motivating participants.
• Reference(s)
You should include transitions among these sections, so the paper will flow nicely.
