Analysis of Civil Wars

Essay Question:
What causes civil wars?
I expect you to write a final paper about the general causes of civil wars. The first part of the paper will explain the theory and generate a hypothesis. The second part will statistically test the hypothesis to see whether it holds against the data. In the final part, you will explain the findings from your empirical testing.

Each essay should include an introduction, theory, hypothesis, empirical testing, findings, and conclusion.
Introduction
Provide a thesis statement that summarizes your argument and conclusions succinctly.
Theory
Explain each of the causes you think is driving the onset of civil wars.
Most importantly, explain how the causal mechanism(s) work for each determinant (single or multiple) leading up to the initiation of civil wars.
If you are proposing multiple determinants, make sure that these drivers are consistently harmonized in your argument.
Make sure to use the academic and journalistic resources we covered in the class and more studies you consider relevant to your discussion.
Hypothesis/ Hypotheses
Based on the theoretical frameworks, generate a clearly stated hypothesis (or multiple hypotheses) that reflect your argument.
Empirical testing
Introduce briefly the explanatory variables that you will use in the statistical testing.
Introduce the control variables briefly you’re incorporating in your model to isolate the main causal mechanism you’re suggesting.
Introduce succinctly which model you’re employing.
Present your results in a statistical table.
Findings
Explain your findings briefly, especially whether your main explanatory variables support your hypothesis.
In addition, you can enhance your explanations for the results using graphs.
Conclusion
Is your hypothesis supported by your statistical testing? If not, then why?
Briefly explain what you have found at the end of your analysis.
