Analyze and describe the relationship between the Reconstruction amendments and Jim Crow legislation, violence, and the Compromise of 1877 which resulted in the removal of voting rights protections.

With the passage of the three Reconstruction amendments the formerly enslaved males should have enjoyed the protections as head of households to forge “the birth of a new freedom.” However, by 1877, all Blacks were effectively disenfranchised and placed in second class status. Analyze and describe the relationship between the Reconstruction amendments and Jim Crow legislation, violence, and the Compromise of 1877 which resulted in the removal of voting rights protections. Discuss how the Radical Republicans might have modified their political strategy during this period to achieve a different outcome. Use examples from at least two Southern states on how they were able to circumvent the intent and purpose of the Reconstruction amendments.
