Analyze the political changes of the 1820s and 1830s.

For this paper, students will use the material from Chapters 10-12 from Give Me Liberty and the supporting sources provided to write a response to ONE of the following prompts. You are not allowed to use any information except was is provided in the class readings and/or videos (if applicable).
Students may choose ONE of the following prompts to write on:
1. Analyze the political changes of the 1820s and 1830s. Why did the U.S. achieve universal white male suffrage? How did this influence the campaign tactics of the Democrats and Andrew Jacksons election? Do the issues of Jacksons presidency support his image as the protector of the common man?
OR
2. Analyze American slavery before the Civil War. What experiencessuch as work, treatment, and food/housingcharacterized slave life? How did slaves develop a different culture and what ways did they try to cope or resist? How did the abolitionist movement shed light on problems of slavery and work towards its end?
