Mission Statement:
to contribute towards significant growth in student achievement through qualitive instruction and innovative student support systems with the goal to meet the needs of post-secondary education and the workforce for life.
Instructions.
Analyze these statements based on what you learned from your readings, specifically, guided in the following manner:
Review the list of 16 tasks for 21st century leaders at the end of chapter 1 in Carter & White (2018), and determine which ones are implied or enacted in the vision and mission of your school. Write your analysis, and then find and embed evidence to support your analysis through more targeted screen shots of your school or district website, as well as social media run by your school. Please be clear and specific on which of the 16 tasks you are using to analyze your vision and mission.
Review the 7 disruptions in chapter 2 and evaluate your school’s ability to meet those during the pandemic, based on what the vision and mission are. Write your analysis and embed evidence to support it. The evidence can also come from the website, or other sources of information used during the pandemic and remote learning.
The last page in chapter two had a “Seeing the Future” insert. Do you think your vision and mission statement can enact those? Explain why or why not, and once again include evidence.
Consider how the school system developed in Peddiwell (2004)’s satire, as well as how they handled drastic change in their environment, by not really changing anything in any significant way. If you consider what your school did to resolve the change of the pandemic, do you think real change occurred or only the temporary impression of change? Did your current vision and mission contribute to the manner in which change was handled? How? Write your analysis and embed evidence to support it. The evidence can also come from the website, or other sources of information used during the pandemic and remote learning.
In answering all these questions analytically, and based on the evidence before you, you will then evaluate how effective it was to handle disruptive change and how equipped it was for 21st century teaching and learning with technology. Write your concluding thoughts on the positive and negative evidence you found. Be critical and set your own school pride aside. This doesn’t mean you will reach only negative conclusions. It just means you are going to objectively balance both good and bad. Yes, there is always evidence of both if you know how to look with a critical eye for evidence. There is always room for improvement.
