Pick one of the following scenarios: Scenario I: The City of Austin bans online video game playing. It will now no longer be legal to play video games across a network, in order to speed up online services for “more important uses”. Scenario II: The City of Austin bans public displays of religious activity, including publicly coming together for religious worship. Scenario III: The new president begins deporting immigrants and citizens of a certain descent or otherwise considered undesirable. Citizens are required to turn anyone who fits these criteria in to the authorities for deportation. Scenario IV: Hands Free Driving Law (the City of Austin has banned the use of devices or being distracted while driving) Answer the following questions: 1. Do you obey the law you have picked? Why or why not? Do you work to overturn it? Do you obey the law in the mean time? [Your thesis statement will reflect your position, but not give an explanation – that is for your body paragraphs!] 2. Pick the three strongest arguments from Plato’s Crito which apply to your scenario. Explain them (one paragraph per argument). You must pick between Argument Against Chaos, Argument from Reciprocal Obligations, or Spirit of the Laws Argument (which could include allegory of the cave, simile of the line, and the Forms). 3. Do you agree with these arguments? Why or why not? How do they support or take away from your position? Successful essays will: roughly 1200-1500 words double spaced; submitted through Blackboard/SafeAssign (by clicking on the hyperlink); include a word count; and, include both in-text citations (using Stephanus numbers) and a works cited page.
