Here is the Writing Procedure:
Choose a poem, short narrative, or musical performance from the contemporary Arab World (either one that we have already discussed in class, or another of your own choosing) and analyze and reflect upon it in more detail. Some questions that you might want to address in your paper, depending on their relevance, include:
• What meaning(s) or experiences are communicated or evoked by the work and how? (think about its style, form and aesthetics)
• What is the social context of its creation and/or reception? Does it have a political or social message?
• Is there anything else you find interesting about it?
If you need to do a little secondary research for context to answer these questions better, that is fine, but focus in the paper on your own analysis and on what you can extrapolate based on the knowledge and tools you have already accumulated in the class and from the created work itself.
