Interview an Older Adult
Different generations may hold different beliefs on topics given their differing life perspectives. The purpose of this paper is to give you an opportunity to explore the beliefs of an older adult and how that might relate to their life experiences. Using issues directly discussed in the chapter(s) of your choice, you will write 5-8 interview questions that cover that issue to assess the older adult’s perspective on the issue. You will complete your interview either in person, on the phone, or over video chat (no email, must converse in real-time!). Your comparison paper will include discussing your views compared to their views, connecting to the textbook and other resources.
1) Using facts/citations, describe the aging issues discussed in the chapter(s) of your choice. Summarize the issue, what would someone need to understand about this issue? Share a compelling argument about why this issue is important in the context of aging.
2) Introduce the person you interviewed including a little bit about their life experiences.
3) Summarize the interview, focusing on the most interesting questions and their answers. What is their view on this issue? How does it compare to your own? How does it compare to what we know about this issue from the textbook/research?
4) Are there any life experiences that may have shaped their views on this issue? Any life experiences that may have shaped your view on this issue? Reflect on what you make of your comparison of both of your views about this issue.
