In all the queries that we have considered so far, we have allowed the RDBMS to display the data using default values. Letting the RDBMS display results using the default values may result in column headings that are not meaningful. There are times when we would like to control how the column headings are displayed. For instance, we may have a query where we do not want the users to know the column names of a particular table. In cases like this, we would like to use substitute headings. The alternative name that we may select to replace a column heading is called a column alias.
