Are there historical, cultural, or representational references?

1500-2000 word
analysis based on one or two films. Papers
should be 6-8 pages double-spaced, not including the Bibliography
In your paper use at least two of the five
analytic tools we’ve covered this semester:
1) Joseph Campbell’s
model of the monomyth
2) Diegesis – What kind of world surrounds the film? Are
there historical, cultural, or representational references? This is not
applicable to all films; some films entirely create their own worlds.
3) Scene analysis
(formal elements of filmmaking such as framing and composition, mise-enscene,
sound design, editing)
4) Spectatorship and Reception Theory (Stuart Hall). How
does a film build a specific relationship with the viewer? Use your own
personal experience and/or models such as feminism; class and race;
psychoanalysis, etc., and/or your reading of a film in dominant, negotiated, or
oppositional modes.
5) Bruno Bettleheim’s theories about “A Child’s Need for
Magic.”
