Are there some technologies that we can develop, but should not, out of moral concern?

DQ1: Read Chapter 9 “The Future is Now” of David Kirby’s book Lab Coats in Hollywood. Select one of the movies described in the chapter and how it influenced the development of the technology that it portrayed in the film. Were there any negative aspects to this development? Are there some technologies that we can develop, but should not, out of moral concern? You only have to detail one of the movies covered in the chapter, but are there any common themes you find throughout the chapter?

Here is a list of options.
1) The movie Threshold, relating to artificial body organs. Should we develop full cyborg technology? 2) The Lawnmower Man and virtual reality. Should we try to download our human consciousness into a computer?
3) Minority Report and controlling computers with hand and body gestures. Are there any negatives to this technology?
4) Woman in the Moon or Destination Moon relating to rocketry and space travel. Were there any negative aspects to this development?
5) Disney’s film Mission to Mars and private enterprises promoting and working on space travel and colonization of Mars. Is the idea of going to Mars something that humans should work on, or is it a waste of resources that would be better spent elsewhere?

DQ2: Read Aleksander, “Partners of Humans” in The Journal of Information Technology. Does Aleksander think that robots and artificial intelligence pose a threat to humanity? Why or Why not?
