You will write a essay in which you identify the argument employed by the article
finding evidence from three separate examples in that article that help
determine the nature of the author’s argument. To this end, you will
quote and cite from the
article according to MLA formatting guidelines. The structure of the essay will be as follows:
Introduction
: First, establish the context of the article’s topic. Your thesis will
then articulate the author’s main argument that can be understood by examining three specific sets of example
Three body paragraphs
: Each will start with an argumentative topic sentence
foregrounding how a particular example reveals part of the author’s
argument.
Each body paragraph will also contain appropriately quoted, cited, and analyzed evidence from the article that works to reveal the author’s argument. Each body paragraph should deal with a distinct set of related examples that are particularly relevant to understanding the
argument that the author of the article makes.
Conclusion
: First, summarize the main points of the essay. Then, conclude your
essay by explaining how this author makes us rethink the topic, what we know
about it, and/or how we feel about it.
