Argumentative Essay vs. Commentary/Persuasive Essay
An argumentative essay tries to make you see the logic behind the writer’s argument, based on relevant information and evidence. An argumentative essay will have a formal tone (Do not make informal “I” STATEMENTS — “I think” or “I know” or “In my experience” is too informal).
A commentary/persuasive essay will try to convince you to side with the writer based on emotion or opinion. This type of essay possesses a more informal tone, though it may have a formal topic.
