This essay allows you to develop your argument and integrate research about people being
terminated for what they posted on social media.
Read the articles posted about the topic. Do additional research or use what you found for the
annotated bibliography to assist you with writing the essay. Write the essay based on the
question below.
Based on the topics, you will be answering one of the following question:
Should people be terminated for what they post to social media?
Remember in an argumentative essay,
you must pick one side of the issue. DO NOT argue both
sides!
Basic Guidelines:
Your essay must have a clear, argumentative thesis statement that claims one side of
the issue.
The body of the essay needs to develop and support the reasons for the thesis.
The closing portion of your essay needs to do more than merely restate the key ideas
you’ve discussed in the body of your text. With what ideas do you want to leave your
reader
Special Constraints:
750-1000 words (5 paragraph minimum – can have more but they must all be welldeveloped and not over 1000 words)
A Works Cited page (does not count as part of the page length requirement)
At least two credible sources – use direct quotes (no long block quotes) / do not use
paraphrase or summary / No more than three sources allowed
Final draft should be submitted in MLA Format to Blackboard
Give work an original title
Questions to ask yourselves before you submit?
Do you have a thesis? Is it the last sentence of the introduction paragraph?
Are my topic sentences clear to the paragraphs they are about?
Have you incorporated at least two quotes using MLA format with proper citations?
Did you explain quotes? Do they make sense to the argument?
Did you make the first sentence of the conclusion a restatement of the thesis? Do
not recopy it word for word.
Did you eliminate shifting points of view? (I, we, our, my, mine, ours, you, yours)
Is your tone academic & formal without contractions, slang, or clichés?
Did you include a Works Cited page?
