Read the Straw Ban article by Laura Kiesel. Select one of the following sets of questions to respond to regarding the nuanced elements of worldview:
Values- What new values emerge as Kiesel writes? Which values are most important to Kiesel? Which values does she tap into most often?
Emotions- What values seem to be emotional charged for Kiesel? What are the moments that seem particularly emotional to her? (Remember, not all emotions are positive.) Emotions may work in some rhetorical situations, but not others. Where is Kiesel’s use of emotions effective and why? Where is it not, and why?
Stories- Who are the “characters” in Kiesel’s article? Think about those characters— who are the heroes and villains from Kiesel’s perspective? What narratives are the various characters involved in? What are some of her guiding stories?
Future stories- What “future stories” do you see her using? What would be the “ideal” world to Kiesel?
Shared values/shared beliefs- What are some points of connection between the author’s worldview and other, differing worldviews?
