Governance in Public Administration — Case Study

Reply to the attached discussion post.

Original discussion topic was “Apply concepts related to governance in a specific, researched public administration case study. Whatever source is used for the actual case study must focus on a real-world public administration situation that is being discussed and analyzed in the chosen article.
The article can be qualitative or quantitative in nature, but it must specifically focus on the public administration context.
Remember to synthesize your research and findings with the required readings and presentations for this week and a Biblical/covenantal model of statesmanship, leadership and organizational behavior.

Heritage Moment Essay

Heritage Moment Essay Length: 8 pages (Double Spaced)
Many have seen Heritage Minutes on television or online, little vignettes that tug at our heartstrings—but what do “Historica” Moments mean for students of Women’s History? Are they valid tools that democratize history? Are they a legitimate way to peak interest in the past? Do they shape a collective narrative? What does that narrative resemble? How does “popular history” influence the study of women’s history? Are there ramifications (positive and negative) to “snap-shot” historical interpretations? While women’s history has been addressed within “Historica” moments, there is clearly fertile ground to be covered.

a. Write a 1-2 page script for a Women’s History Historical Moment on a subject of your choosing. Please keep to the time-frame of our course (First Contact to Second Wave Feminism and the Civil Rights Movement) and to a subject of Canadian of American Women’s History.
Your script should include both dialogue among your historical actors and a narrator’s voice-over for its introduction and conclusion, as well as descriptions of the visual images you would use including sets, locals, and even people. Feel free to include pictures, drawings, music, or a video as attachments (though this is NOT a requirement of the assignment.

b. Then write a 6 page essay elaborating on the larger history of your moment. Remember this is an analytical argumentative essay — you need a thesis, arguments, a counter-argument (if relevant) and a conclusion. You may used first person.

c. Your conclusion should tackle the questions above, as well as detail why you feel this moment is significant to our larger understanding of women’s history. It should also include a section highlighting the limitations of a “minute” by examining the broader context of the historical moment you have chosen to recreate. What story or whose voices are missing from your moment? What had to be glossed over?

d. Your analysis should include at least 3 Primary Sources, and 3 Secondary Sources. I recommend using Google Scholar through the Library database website for secondary sources. Remember Wikipedia is NOT an academic source! Feel free to use more sources, especially primary, which is a key criterion for an “A” paper. For inspiration you may wish to consult the “Histor!ca” website (https://www.historicacanada.ca/heritageminutes) to view examples of moments from Canadian History. You can select the category of women to see what moments have been written about already—you can choose the same woman/theme but you must write an original script and angle.

You can use Google to find primary sources (as long as they have complete bibliographic information) as well as museum websites like McCord, Canadian Museum of Human Rights, online newspaper archives, the National Archives of Canada, the Archive of Ontario, the Smithsonian, and the Library of Congress to name just a few starting options. The Toronto Reference Library is also a great resource at Yonge and Bloor Streets.
If you feel that it is beyond your principles to write a positive Heritage Moment, I will permit Anti-Heritage moments as well. Be professional and treat your subjects with respect and sensitivity.

Referencing: Please use APA format for in-text citations (Last name, page #)
You MUST cite: 1) When you use Direct Quotes 2) When you Paraphrase and 3) When you Use Statistics
Please divide your Bibliography into Primary and Secondary sources. Citation machine is a good resource for citation formats. This resource is helpful (though I always want to see page numbers): https://library.humber.ca/help/apa/text-citations

I have chosen a topic of Laura Secord

War of 1812 heroine

You need to create a script for her another heritage Moment not the one that is shown in the video of her.

You noted that the U.S. had imposed economic sanctions on Iran to pressure the regime to change its behavior. How effective have these sanctions been in achieving their goals? Have they had any impact on Iran’s alleged support for terrorist organizations?

Discussion Thread: Teaching Approaches 4.20

Presume that in all cases these fifth-grade teachers responsible for teaching history are professional and want the best for their students. How do you evaluate their approaches?

Ron sees the textbook as the curriculum he is to teach. He says “I feel a responsibility to do this. Experts decided that this textbook was the most important. And who am I to say that it is not so?” Ron uses media and various instructional strategies to help students learn what is needed to do well on state tests.
Even for her fifth graders, Kim wants her students to be aware of how historians go about their work. She looks for primary sources, even though they have to be short and within the understanding of her students. Her class identified the Declaration of Independence as a primary source document. They spent days going over the meaning of the various parts of the document with an emphasis on why the particular ideas were there and what was left out.
Sue has set up an economic simulation of life in Virginia. She hopes that during the debriefing time and afterward, students will identify the economic problems that the nation is facing today.
