What kinds of beliefs, if any, does a Pyrrhonist retain? Are they sufficient to enable Pyrrhonists to live their scepticism?

Need to write a 2500 word philosophy undergraduate essay about the nature of Pyrrhonist skepticism and its relationship to belief.

The essential reading provided is:
– Sextus Empiricus, Outlines Book I,sections vii, x and xi also sections xxxiii-xxxiv sections xxxiii-xxxiv
– Gisela Striker, ‘Academics versus Pyrrhonists, reconsidered’, in R. Bett (ed.), The Cambridge Companion to Ancient Scepticism (CUP 2010) [esp. useful: her account of the Apraxia issue in the introduction, and her discussion of the Pyrrhonist response in section II]

Some recommended readings are:
– Michael Frede, ‘The sceptic’s beliefs’ (originally published in 1979), reprinted in his Essays in Ancient Philosophy, Minneapolis: University of Minnesota Press 1987 (classical statement of a ‘narrow scope’ reading of Pyrrhonian scepticism)

– Benjamin Morison, ‘Sextus Empiricus’ (Stanford Encylopedia of Philosophy) is a helpful introduction to Phyrrhonian scepticism, esp. to the debate over ‘narrow scope’ vs ‘wide scope’ readings. (There is a nice supplement on ‘Interpreting Frede’.)Benjamin Morison, ‘Sextus Empiricus’ (Stanford Encylopedia of Philosophy) is a helpful introduction to Phyrrhonian scepticism, esp. to the debate over ‘narrow scope’ vs ‘wide scope’ readings. (There is a nice supplement on ‘Interpreting Frede’.)

– Jonathan Barnes, ‘The beliefs of a Pyrrhonist’ , in M. Burnyeat & M. Frede (eds.), The original sceptics: a controversy. Indianapolis: Hackett. 1998 [Influential defence of a ‘wide-scope’ reading (which Barnes calls a ‘rustic’ reading).]

– Casey Perin, The Demands of Reason, ch. 3 ‘The Scope of Scepticism’ (defence of a version of a ‘wide-scope’ reading of Pyrrhonian scepticism) and ch. 4 ‘Appearances and Action’ (a discussion of how, under that reading, the sceptic is supposed to be able to engage in any ordinary activities) (OUP 2010)

However, if you have other interesting readings, they are also welcome. The citation style must be Harvard. Word count has to be 2500 with 10% +- margin.

Please find attached the marking criteria.

Thanks

Spanish Wine and Drinking Culture

For this paper, you will cover aspects of wine and the drinking culture in Spain. In terms of wine, incorporate detailed information on the different names of wine, where it is made, ingredients used, alcohol content, different flavors and aromas, the winemaking and crafting techniques, and the overall delicacy/art of wine in the country. You can incorporate how the spice trade/columbian exchange affected the wine in Spain. In terms of the drinking culture, cover aspects of drinking with meals, with family, and how it is such a profound aspect of the culture in Spain, and how it differs from America. Get specific and compare all of this information with two separate regions of Spain (your choice: could be north and south, different political states, west and east, etc), how they are similar, and how they differ. It is important that there is a comparison between the two different regions of Spain. Ex: winemaking is different in one region than the other, or, different ingredients are used in the north than the south. 5 sources are the minimum, you can go over that if needed, and please cite them at the end, as well as throughout the paper. The sources must be reliable. AVOID ALL FORMS OF PLAGIARISM AND AI DETECTION, please do not be repetitive in the essay. You may go over 2000 words but do not go under. Include images as well. Thank you!
