How does the voting rate in the United States compare to other countries? Which groups vote at a higher rate and which vote at a lower rate? Why does the video suggest some people might not vote?

Introduction

In these critical reflection assignments I am going to ask you to read an article, watch a video, or play a simulation, and then answer a few questions about it. In this final one, you’re going to watch the video at the end of this page titled “Should the U.S.A. Have Mandatory Voting?” You should also make sure you’ve already read the textbook and the other material in this module.

After you’ve watched the video, I’d like you to write a minimum 300 word reflection that covers the following (it can be more than 300 words as there’s no maximum; just a minimum):

1) How does the voting rate in the United States compare to other countries? Which groups vote at a higher rate and which vote at a lower rate? Why does the video suggest some people might not vote?

2) If mandatory voting were to be imposed, what level(s) of government would need to be involved and why? How could we increase voter turnout even without making it mandatory?

3) What arguments does the video present for and against mandatory voting?

4) Based on the video and the other readings/material in the course, do you believe that voting should be mandatory? Why or why not?

Rubric

For each of the questions above, you can receive up to 9 points as below:

7 points: Fully answers the question and offers supporting evidence.

6 points: Either misses a small part of a question, lacks some evidence, or has some small factual inaccuracies.

5 points: Does not answer a part of a question or lacks evidence or has moderate factual inaccuracies.

4 or fewer points: Has substantial factual inaccuracies or fails to address the question.

You can also receive up to 2 points for the quality and clarity of the writing.

Paper Structure/Citations

You can set up your paper however you would like. If you would like to answer each question one at a time, that is fine (in other words you do not have to write this as a formal essay with a thesis statement or anything like that). If you are using information from the book or the included article you do not need to cite it, unless you directly quote it, in which case you should put it in direct quotes and say something like: According to PBS, “XYZ”. If you use any outside sources other than the book or the article, you should absolutely cite it. You may use any citation system you would like – MLA, APA, Chicago, etc. – so long as you are consistent.

Executive Summary

.

What is an Executive Summary? How to develop an Executive Summary?

According to the Writing@CSU | The Writing Studio a https://writing.colostate.edu/guides/index.cfmLinks to an external site.

.

An Executive summary is:

.

“Executive Summaries

Executive Summaries are much like any other summary in that their main goal is to provide a condensed version of the content of a longer report.

.

The executive summary is usually no longer than 10% of the original document. It can be anywhere from 1-10 pages long, depending on the report’s length. Executive summaries are written literally for an executive who most likely DOES NOT have the time to read the original [document].

.

Executive summaries make a recommendation. Accuracy is essential because decisions will be made based on your summary by people who have not read the original.

.

Executive summaries frequently summarize more than one document”

Chapter 5: Poetry Writing [Great Gatsby]

Prompt: Chapter 4 ends with the story of Daisy’s romances and marriage. In Chapter 5, Daisy and Gatsby are reunited. It seems that they have fallen in love again when Nick says:

As I watched him he adjusted himself a little, visibly. His hand took hold of hers, and as she said something low in his ear he turned toward her with a rush of emotion. I think that voice held him most, with its fluctuating, feverish warmth, because it couldn’t be over-dreamed— that voice was a deathless song.

They had forgotten me, but Daisy glanced up and held out her hand; Gatsby didn’t know me now at all. I looked once more at them and they looked back at me, remotely, possessed by intense life. Then I went out of the room and down the marble steps into the rain, leaving them there together.

Task:
Imagine that Daisy calls Jordan when she returns home. Compose a poem about what was said. The poem does not have to rhyme, although it certainly may.

The contents of the poem will depend on how you interpret the discussion and meeting between Gatsby and Daisy. In the chapter, Fitzgerald allows for many interpretations of their meeting.

See if your poem can deal with:
The significance of Daisy’s crying over Gatsby’s shirts, the broken clock, or the rain
The meaning of Gatsby knowing how long it has been since he had last seen Daisy
Daisy’s comments about the cloud
The implied conversation after Nick leaves

Requirements:
Must be at least two stanzas (eight lines total)
Must be from Daisy’s point of view with personal pronouns
Don’t forget a title!

I will attach the electronic version of the book and some symbolism referring to the book if you’d like to add that into the poem. Be romantic, sentimental, etc…. if I am shocked by the poem, a $20-30 bonus will be added.

Wk 4 – Summative Assessment: The Application and Limitations of Statistical Tests

Exam Content
Not every statistical test is appropriate to use in every situation. It’s important to be able to determine when to apply
certain statistical tests and what limitations to be aware of. Fortunately, many research studies include sections about the purpose and limitations of the study data and analysis. In this assignment, you will examine research in the criminal justice field that involves the use of statistical tests in order to better understand the applications and
limitations of these tools.
Find an article in the University Library that involves the use of inferential statistical tests in analyzing criminal justice data. Follow the steps below to locate a full-text article in the library’s criminal justice database:
On the University Library home page, click on Research Databases.
In the alphabetical listing of databases, scroll to Criminal Justice Abstracts with Full Text and click to open it.
Click on Advanced Search.
In the first search field, add your research methodology (inferential statistics, ANOVA, or t-tests).
In the second search field, add a topic within criminal justice that interests you (e.g., police, crime, parole, drug
trafficking). You may have to adjust your keyword to find an interesting article that you can use.
Read the article, paying special attention to the application and limitations of specific statistical tests used in the
research.
Write an 875- to 1,050-word paper in which you do the following:
State what interested you about your selected article.
Summarize the article.
Identify the statistical test(s) used in the research.
Discuss the article’s analysis of the research question.
Compare the appropriateness of the procedures and results to the initial research question. Discuss any limitations of the statistical test(s). What did the researchers not learn from the tests that may be valuable to understand the research question?
Cite a minimum of 2 peer-reviewed sources.
Format your paper according to APA guidelines.

Ethical, Legal, and Regulatory Compliance Issues in Resident Care

Assignment Details
Uncle Joe is a 78-year-old male living in a nursing home for the past 10 years after his retirement. He has Alzheimer’s disease and has not slept enough at night. He has no recollection of his family, and all contacts that he had on the books about relatives were outdated. He was last visited 4 months ago by his only son, who since died in the war. Because of his mental status, he cannot decide for himself about his care or other issues.
At night, Uncle Joe wanders into other resident’s rooms, which often ends in a fight with residents being injured. The facility was recently sued by another resident, and management had to settle with a considerable amount of money.
Uncle Joe was recently placed on one-to-one for close monitoring by a nursing assistant. Most of the nursing assistants assigned to Joe have not been patient with him. It has been challenging to redirect him or persuade him to follow instructions. Often, the nursing assistants have been restraining Joe with belts, whereas other assistants pinch him to gain control. The other day, a social worker came in and saw the bruises and spots on Uncle Joe and requested an immediate investigation into the matter. Two of the nursing assistants who were caught on camera abusing Uncle Joe were terminated immediately. The issue was not reported to the state as required by law.
Prepare at least a 3-page observation and assessment outlining protocols and procedures for dealing with residents like Uncle Joe. In your memo, make sure that you address the points listed below. Cite at least 5 sources.

Explain the rights and responsibilities that Uncle Joe has as a resident and why he was not been allowed to make decisions for himself.

Discuss the procedures of decision making for a person with mental impairment.

Define ethical and legal issues at play in this scenario. How would you address them?

Describe and state the importance of a resident advocate and why one should be assigned to Uncle Joe.

Explain how resident advocates help to bring change in resident care in facilities.

Explain the abuses that Uncle Joe underwent, and share how such issues be handled correctly.

Discuss the political and social impact of advocacy on resident care.

Identify how the government can help improve the quality of care of residents.

Use the following template: Unit 4 Assignment.
Deliverable Requirements
A minimum 3-page observation and assessment outlining protocols and procedures for dealing with residents like Uncle Joe
Cite at least 5 sources.

Legal and Ethical Issues and Decision Making Involving Older Adults

An 80-year-old man in a coma with no hope of recovery is admitted to a facility where you are employed as a healthcare administrator. The man has not prepared any healthcare directive such as a living will or medical power of attorney. The patient’s religion does not require artificial nutrition or hydration. The family members agree that the patient does not want to die with tubes attached to him. The doctor has met with the family before preparing the form for orders. The doctor informs the family that the patient will die in a few days without having a tube inserted for water and food. The feeding tube may keep him alive for several years. If there is no feeding tube for hydration, the patient’s death might be painful or uncomfortable. The doctor prefers to provide the feeding tube, but the family disapproves of the measure. The doctor refers the case to the ethics committee to avoid any further risk to the facility.
As a member of the ethics committee, explore the following options:

Transfer the patient to an inpatient hospice to die a natural death, treating any pain with medications.
Keep the patient in the facility, and go to court for an order to insert under the contention that, without the feeding tube, he will die.

What principles will the ethics committee rely on to solve this ethical dilemma?

Evaluate the risk involved in keeping the patient at your facility and inserting the tube. How could this risk be eliminated?

What are the roles of external regulatory bodies in this case?

What are some barriers to quality management initiatives for the elderly population?

List some advocacy groups, and suggest their roles in creating a social change in the community.

Deliverable Requirements
The requirements are as follows:
Write a 4-page commentary as a member of the ethics committee, and present your position or decision in the case.
Cite 5 peer-reviewed sources in APA format.
