List and describe the biggest causes of stress for you over the past year or more.

Complete the following steps:
Part 1 of the paper – Evaluate your stress
Part 2 of the paper – Past Coping skills
Part 3 of the paper – Changing mindset and situations in developing effective coping strategies
Part 1: Evaluate your stress.
Stress is the body’s response to stressful situations. Conflict, loss, and over-commitment are common causes of stress. Remember, too, how you evaluate any situation in your life is personal to you. What seems stressful to you may not be an issue for someone else, but that doesn’t matter.
In the first part of this paper, discuss the following questions:
What causes your stress?
List and describe the things you have found stressful over the past few weeks.
What about chronic stress?
List and describe the biggest causes of stress for you over the past year or more.
What is bothering you the most today?
What are your early warning signs of stress?
That is, how can you tell when you are feeling stressed?
What are the first things you notice when you experience stress?
What are your chronic symptoms of long-term stress? Are there any symptoms you have often?
Part 2: Past Coping Skills – What works and what doesn’t?
In this second part of this paper, evaluate your post coping skills for handling stress.
How do you usually handle stress?
When an event or situation presents itself in your life, how do you appraise it? What is the first thought that comes to mind?
List all of your typical coping skills.
Evaluate the effectiveness of each by discussing the positives and negatives of each.
How effective are the coping behaviors you have used in the past?
Do they reduce or eliminate the stress? Do they present more stress?
Which coping skills did you use in the past but are no longer using? Why is this?
Part 3: Changing Mindset and Situations in Developing Effective Coping Strategies
Think about your mindset as it relates to these stressful situations and what coping strategies might be more effective for you in the future. It is important to use a variety of coping strategies to manage stress that inevitably will occur. What strategies are you willing to do? While not all stressful situations are within our control, and not every situation can be changed, how do you change your mindset from thinking you are a “victim” to a circumstance to someone who is a victor?
By regularly practicing coping strategies, you can stop stress from building up and prevent stress overload which can lead to burnout. Effective, healthy coping skills can allow you to get through difficult times. The material in chapter 7 (Coping, Resilience, and Support) presents information regarding effective strategies as do Dr. McGonigal’s video and other academic resources.
Now, in part 3 of the paper:
Using one of your current stressors, compare and contrast your mindset shift, and discuss up to 5 of the specific coping strategies that you can implement when you have stressful times. In this discussion, include a specific description of how these strategies can assist you with the stress.
