What other labor market data points should an economist look at to properly gauge the health of the labor market?

question 1
Preface:
Suppose
Maria’s parents want to pay for her undergraduate education at Bard
College, which is a small liberal arts school in Upstate New York.
Suppose that tuition costs $35,000 for the 1st year. Maria’s parents are
willing to pay up to $40,000 for the 1st year of tuition.
Maria’s
parents have $35,000 in an FDIC insured certificate of deposit (CD)
that contractually pays a fixed 2% interest rate over the course of the
next year. Another bank will give Maria’s parents a $35,000 student
loan at a fixed 3% interest rate with no money down. The loan is only
for 1 year, and the interest and principal payment are due at the end of
the year.
Instructions:
Use the information in the preface to answer the following questions in an essay format:
1)
Should Maria’s parents take out a student loan, or should they pay the
tuition with the balance in their bank account? Explain and defend your
reasoning as to why Maria’s parents should either take out a student
loan or pay the tuition with the balance in their bank account. Please
make sure that you utilize concepts from the course to defend your
answer.

2) Is there any risk or variability in the outcomes of their decision? Explain your reasoning.

question 2
The Senate Finance Committee created the Boskin Commission in 1996,
which consisted of five prominent economists, to report on any biases in
the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The Boskin Commission concluded that
the CPI overstated inflation by 1.1 percentage
points, meaning that if the official CPI stated inflation rate was
3.0%, then the true rate of inflation was 1.9% (3.0%-1.1%) in the eyes
of the Boskin Commission.
The following tables detail the average nominal yearly wages of
workers with only a high school degree and the average real wages (2016
dollars) for the years 1980-2016. The first table’s CPI is based on the
Bureau of Labor Statistic’s CPI data and the second table is based on
the Boskin Commission’s CPI.
Instructions:
Use the information in the preface to answer the following questions in an essay format:
1) How would the 1.1 percentage
point reduction in the CPI inflation rate revise or change the level of
wages in the United States? Why were individual’s incomes higher or
lower than what economists previously had thought under the Bureau of
Labor Statistics’ (BLS) prior formulation of the CPI?
2) How would the 1.1 percentage point reduction in the CPI inflation
rate revise or change the rate of real wage growth in the United States
over the previous decades? Why would it revise or change the rate of
real wage growth?
3) Suppose that the Boskin Commission did NOT conclude that the CPI
overstated inflation by 1.1 percentage points. Rather, lets suppose
that the Boskin Commission concluded that the CPI understated inflation
by 2 percentage points, meaning that if the official CPI stated
inflation rate was 3.0%, then the true rate of inflation was 5.0% (3.0% +
2.0%) in the eyes of the Boskin Commission.
How would the 2 percentage point increase in the CPI inflation rate
revise or change the rate of real wage growth in the United States over
the previous decades? Why would it revise or change the rate of real
wage growth?

question 3
Questions:
1) How did the unemployment rate change between May and June of 2019?
2) Why might the change in the unemployment rate between May and June
of 2019 be a misleading gauge of the health of the labor market?

3) What other labor market data points should an economist look at to
properly gauge the health of the labor market? Why are these
alternative labor market data points more useful in June 2019, and why
are they useful in general?

What did it mean to Coates as a child to watch Michael Jackson undergo surgeries to look whiter?

Read the attached article to answer the following questions.

1. Many of us are probably familiar with Kanye West, either as musician, as figure of controversy, or both. If you do have an opinion on Kanye, how do you feel about him? Has your opinion changed over the last few years? Has his music been meaningful to you in the same way it has to this author?
2. In the first two pages, Coates talks about Michael Jackson, not Kanye. What does he mean when he says “who can really stop a black god dying to be white?” What did it mean to Coates as a child to watch Michael Jackson undergo surgeries to look whiter? What comparison do you think he is drawing between Michael Jackson and Kanye?
3. On page 5, Coates describes his first experience listening to Kanye, on Jay Z’s The Blueprint. What was that experience like for him? Can you relate to this at all?
4. Coates sets the article up as pure criticism of Kanye, but on page 6, his tone shifts. He believes Kanye deserves to be held accountable for his actions, but he also suggests Kanye deserves empathy from the public. He writes that Kanye’s career has shown “a paucity of wisdom, and more, a paucity of loved ones powerful enough to perform the most essential function of love itself, protecting the beloved from destruction.” What does he mean here? (Paucity means lack!)
5. On page 7, Coates shifts the discussion, and begins to tell the reader about his own experience becoming famous. (He wrote a book called Between The World and Me that came out in 2015 and has been on the bestseller list since.) What was his experience of fame like? Why do you think he chooses to tell us about it?

Describe the process you use to determine the non-academic needs of students, parents, and the community. Who do you involve in the process of determining these needs? What are the school/district priorities and how are they established?

Write a reflection paper on Haraway says “the machine is us, our processes, an aspect of our embodiment.” (p. 99) So, if we are heavily living in a social reality of gender social constructions doesn’t that mean our technology will ultimately have those too? Do we have to change so that our technology changes or can a technology that is aimed at going beyond gender or being genderless change us first? Offer your position and support it.
To cite readings simply name the author and the page number from the text. Direct quoting is not necessary, summary is always nice, but if you do make sure you clearly show where it comes from.

Briefly describe the cyberattack and its implications for the nation.

The President and Crisis Management
Today is your presidential Inauguration Day. You were elected as president last November by a slim margin in both the popular vote and the electoral vote. You attended a worship service this morning with your family and about a dozen high-ranking members of the U.S. House and the U.S. Senate. Then, you and the current president took a ride in a convertible car to the U.S. Capitol, where you were sworn in as the new president of the United States. It is now official; you are the president!
As you and your family are enjoying the parade, your new chief of staff and one of the key military advisors who is a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff whispers to you that there has been a major cyberattack on key federal financial institutions across the United States that compromised the personal financial data and passwords of hundreds of thousands of citizens.
Even though you have held office for just a few hours, you know it is critical to act swiftly and decisively so that the perpetrators of the crime, the American citizens, and political leaders (those who support you and those who do not) see you as a competent and strong leader. What are your first three actions?
In your paper, you will describe these three actions in detail. Organization is important in this paper. Make certain to include the following information in your paper, and organize major sections using headings.
Briefly describe the cyberattack and its implications for the nation.
This section should be located early in the paper (i.e., in the first or second paragraph).
Do you know who the perpetrators are?
What was the goal of the crime?
How much damage was caused?
What is your first action?
Why is this action your first? Why is it so important?
What is the goal of the action? What purpose does it serve?
What individuals, groups, or organizations does it involve?
What is your second action?
Why is this action your second? Why is it so important?
What is the goal of the action? What purpose does it serve?
What individuals, groups, or organizations does it involve?
What is your third action?
Why is this action your third? Why is it so important?
What is the goal of the action? What purpose does it serve?
What individuals, groups, or organizations does it involve?
Provide a conclusion.
What are your next steps?
Briefly describe how your actions were limited by the U.S. Constitution. For example, you may feel constrained by the other two branches—powers denied to you by the U.S. Constitution or law (e.g., declaring war or appointing to key positions in your administration loyal and trusted friends without going through the formal appointment process or the civil services system).
Your paper must be 2–4 pages in length, not counting the title page and references page. Make certain to double-space, apply 1-inch margins, and use 12-point font. Utilize headings to separate major sections of your plan (e.g., First Action, Section Action). Cite all sources in-text and on the references page using APA Style.
Your paper must be submitted to SafeAssign using the SafeAssign Originality Checker, which is software that helps identify plagiarism. The SafeAssign Originality Checker can be found within the CSU Student Portal (under your list of courses). You can submit your paper within the checker more than once. Once you receive your SafeAssign results, you can correct any areas of your paper that have too closely matched the sources you used. Your paper should not have a score higher than 40%.
In addition to your textbook readings and the unit lesson for this unit, the following resources may be helpful as you complete the assignment. As aforementioned, make certain to cite all sources—in-text and on the references page—that you use to support your work.
