What kinds of rights and responsibilities teenagers can effectively manage.

What kinds of rights and responsibilities teenagers can effectively manage. Should teenagers be able to self-emancipate? Should they be able to drive? Drink? Vote? Purchase and carry guns? Sign legal agreements such as loans and leases? Make determinations about their own healthcare independently? What about age? How do we know when teenagers are old enough to participate in these kinds of decisions?
Often essays that tackle these ideas are serious, passionate, strident, unyielding and inflexible, and grounded in faulty logic. What these essays, forwarding positions such as “if I can die for my country, I ought to be able to legally buy beer!” miss is that the audience has likely survived that period of angsty adolescence and is none the worse for it. Readers tend to discount or dismiss these essays and their writers, but not all of that is related to bad logic or perceived inexperience, certainly not cruelty or indifference to the topic. I think much of it comes from taking oneself too seriously as a writer and misunderstanding one’s audience.
Write an essay in defense of a position of your choice – the value of risk-taking, lowering the drinking age, emancipation, voting rights – that puts to work what you’ve learned about seriousness in this unit. Your argument essay must
