Cognition refers to all mental activities involved with thinking, knowing, attention, problem-solving, remembering, and communicating. Consider the ideas of Piaget and Vygotsky in terms of how they believe children gain these skills. Think back, also, to what we discussed in In the Beginning. How do you think we go from being infants whose mental activities are unknown to us a adults (we know there are many things going on in their little brains, but we don’t really understand how they are going on) to being toddlers who can communicate in all sorts of ways, to being adolescents who are so much more sophisticated in their thinking and communicating. Think about the two theories, but also think about what YOU think or have observed.

Staircase Design

See attached (there is a part done, although I am not sure if it is correct.).

You are a newly hired architect for Moseley Architects, and you have been tasked with creating the design for stairs connecting floors within stairwell A (pictured below).
Launch:
Using the given code requirements for stairs and the given drawing for the first and second floors, determine the best design possible to connect the first and second floors.
Requirements include:
● 13 feet between floors vertically
● Minimum stair width is 44 inches
● 1 foot horizontal spacing distance between staircase separated by a landing
● Stair width is at least the (Egress Capacity) x (Building SF (sq ft))
● Egress capacity for stairs is 0.3 in/occupant
● For this building use 100SF per occupant
● Maximum vertical travel distance before a required landing is 12 feet
● Landing width must be at least the stair width
● Tread minimum = 11 inch and maximum = 12 inch (step run)
● Riser minimum = 4 inch and maximum = 7 inch (step rise)

Explore:
Show all work for the tasks below. All work is required for full credit!
1. Determine the minimum number of risers and treads needed to connect the first and second floors.
2. Using the minimum number of risers and treads that you found in #1, determine the following dimensions needed for each riser, tread, and stair width while staying within the given requirements.
a. Determine the height of the riser.
b. Determine the length of the tread.
c. Determine the width of the landing.
d. Determine the stair width.
e. Create a drawing for your design stairwell that shows a side view of the stairs and landing.
Label your picture and include the dimensions you found above with units.
3. The building owner has decided to put an exit door under the stair landing. The minimum height needed for this door is 8 ft vertically from floor to landing. Redesign your staircase to be able to add in this exit door.
a. Determine the number of steps before and after the landing.
b. Based on the above number, what is the height of the risers before and after the landing?

Web-Based Application

New Ways to use Web-based Applications
As technology grows, so does its uses. Companies are finding ways to let their employees manage various parts of their job without needing a full-time employee. One way this is done is with web-based self-service applications.
Discuss new ways for employees to use Web-based self-service applications in their companies that will help save time and money. Describe not only the applications and how they work, but how they can save the company money and time. Be sure to include disadvantages to the process from the point of view of the employee.

Military History Unit VI

Locate and select an article from the CSU Online Library that discusses the conflicts between the U.S. military and Native Americans after the Civil War. The databases America: History and Life with Full Text and JSTOR are two good places to begin your research.
After selecting and reading your chosen article, write an article critique. In your assignment, you will be examining both the content and the purpose for the article. Be sure to address the following components in your article critique:
Introduction:
Who is the author, and what are their credentials? Why did they write the article?
Mention the central themes of the article and the arguments and claims of the author. You also need to state the author’s thesis.
Body:
What major figure(s) were covered in the article, and why were these figures significant?
What military needs were present in the post-Civil War era?
What was the social climate of this time period? What was the attitude of the soldiers coming out of the war?
Discuss the positive aspects of the article. Think about what the author does well, good points that he or she makes, and insightful observations
Conclusion:
Discuss the meaning or implications of the article’s contents as well as any flaws you find in the article.
Summarize the main points of the article along with your opinions about its significance, accuracy, and clarity. If relevant, also comment on implications for further research or discussion in the field.
Your article critique must be at least two pages in length, not counting title and reference pages. Additional sources are not required but may be used if needed to supplement your chosen article. Adhere to APA Style when constructing this assignment, including a title page and in-text citations and references for all sources that are used.

Self Assessment / Team Assessment

1. DESCRIBE THE MOST EFFECTIVE TEAM WITH WHICH YOU HAVE EVER BEEN ASSOCIATED. ( work, school, social)
A. WHAT DID YOU LIKE THE MOST ABOUT BEING A MEMEBER OF THAT TEAM?
B. WHY WERE YOU ABLE TO PERFORM SUCCESSFULLY ON THE TEAM?
C. WHAT DID THE TEAM LEADER DO TO BLEND THE TEAM MEMBERS INTO AN EFFICIENTN/EFFECTIVE GROUP?
D. PROVIDE SPECIFIC EXAMPLES TO ILLUSTRATE HOW TEAM MEMBERS USED FEEDBACK TO HELP YOU GROW, DEVELOP, AND IMPROVE?
E. HAVE YOU EVER BEEN PART OF THE TEAM OR GROUP THAT, IN RETROSPECT, YOU WISH THAT YOU HAD NEVER BEEN A PART OF? WHAT ARE THE MAJOR DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE TEAM AND THE ONE DESCRIBED ABOVE.

Coxiella burnetii

dopt a microbe guidelines:
How is your microbe identified in the lab? (morphology, stain, differential/selective media, biochemical tests, etc)
List the most common ways in which they come into contact with humans
List all virulence factors that can make humans sick and explain how they work. If virulence factors depend on a serotype, pick the top 3 serotypes and list virulence factors by each serotype.
List the most common signs/symptoms caused by each virulence factor.
List the most common treatments (if treated) for the above signs/symptoms.
List any resistances to antimicrobials and what treatment is being used instead.
Grading: Grading will be a combination of peer grading (25%) and professor grading (75%).
Grading Criteria
Completely and accurately cover each point above in 5 minutes or less (30%).
Creativity – you need to draw* a cartoon of your microbe that conveys their morphology, staining (if possible) pattern, main virulence factors, main illness caused, where it is found, etc. (30%)
Present the information in an organized and concise manner that demonstrates your understanding of what you are presenting (20%).
Delivery – In a relaxed and self confident manner, significantly increase your classmates understanding and knowledge about your microbe. (20%)

But you may not present anyone else’s work as your own work! Your cartoon must be your
work! Can’t draw? Use the shapes in Microsoft Office products. In your presentation everything should be in your own words. You should not be reading someone else’s words. Doing so is considered cheating and you will recieve a zero on this assignmnt.
you need to film yourself making a presentation. The only required presentation aid is your cartoon of your microbe.
It should be under 5 minutes and for the most part it should be off notes, Sources to learn more about your microbe: I’d suggest starting with your textbook. We also have a Bergy’s Manual in the lab. If you use any web resources you need to make sure it is a website that uses factually correct information. All sources should be properly cited.

Music Times

Write a two-page reflection on the musical time periods discussed thus far (ancient music, medieval, and renaissance.) The paper should be 12 font and double spaced. Each time period summary should include dates, important composers, important instruments, inventions, and works.

Reaction paper on the movie “ghost on the shell”

Reaction Papers (Individual)
Written Pages: Papers must be typed, with 1-inch margins, 12-point font, double spaced. These papers must be at least two FULL pages in length (not 1 page and a single line on the 2nd page).
Cover Page: You will have a cover page for each reaction paper that has your name and the name of the film.
Reference Page: You will have a reference page for each reaction paper referencing the film and any peer-reviewed article or credible source in APA style – https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/reference_list_audiovisual_media.html
What should be in the reaction paper?
The reaction paper should focus most on the portrayal of the archetypes in each movie, and whether the movie presented any aspect of psychology in a realistic way. You can address…
What were the archetypes characterized in the movie?
What was realistic (possibly good) about the way this topic was portrayed in the movie?
What is incorrect/misleading (possibly bad) about the way this topic was portrayed in the movie?
When people unaware of psychological principles view this movie, what effect or impact do you think it has on their perceptions of both this particular topic and on psychology or psychologists in general? If psychologists appear as characters, was this portrayal positive, negative, accurate, etc.?
If you were going to create a re-make/prequel/sequel of this movie, how would you change the archetypal character or the situation to make the portrayal more realistic, or include things that were left out of the movie? (If listing another movie, there should be a logical reason [with references] for the additional movie.)
You may also discuss other things you think are relevant to the impact this movie has on general society, from a psychological perspective – History (e.g. where did it start? What is the source? Etiology?); Media Portrayals; Research Study; Character’s Life (e.g. illustrate the person’s life in the film); Daily Lives of People (e.g. illustrate a case study in current society).
What should NOT be in the reaction paper?
Simply summarize the movie. There should be zero paragraphs which summarize the film without reference to any aspect of psychology (a symptom, concept etc.).
Simply list/discuss aspects of the characters or situations WITHOUT reference to the movie at all.

Performance Management Issue

Performance management can focus on the performance of an organization, a department, an employee, etc. It should be noted that performance appraisal methods are not a one-size-fits-all solution. Please read the scenario below to help you get started on this assignment.
Scenario
In Organization X, Sarah (who is the Director of Accounting) noted that one of her employees continuously performs poorly during his annual review. Despite yearly conversations with Sarah’s employee, who is named Jacob, performance still is lacking. Sarah is at her wits’ end and has suggested that Jacob be terminated. After discussing the problem with Sarah, in detail, you ask Jacob to come to chat with you. During a one-on-one discussion, Jacob notes that Sarah’s feedback is surprising to him, especially considering the following:
Sarah only meets with Jacob once a year and has not expressed concerns on a regular basis.
During Jacob’s past review, he received “Meets Expectations” and “Exceeds Expectations” in all areas.
Jacob has solicited feedback, from Sarah, to which she responds, “You’re doing great, Jacob.”
Sarah just told Jacob, two days before, that his performance was inadequate, which Jacob thinks is a result of an invoicing mistake that he made.
In at least 3 full pages, address the following topics, which are listed below in bold font. Please note that your paper should include a cover page, introduction, the required sections, a conclusion, and a reference page.
Cover Page
Introduction
Section 1 –Performance Management- In this section, describe the purpose and value of performance management processes. Then, explain what might have occurred in terms of this scenario.
Section 2 – Effective Performance Appraisals- In this section, suggest ways the organization can increase the effectiveness of performance appraisals (think about Sarah’s role in ensuring performance appraisal success).
Section 3 – Recommendations. In this section, explain what changes you would make in regard to the performance management process. Then, explain if you would recommend termination, based upon Sarah’s feedback. Justify your rationale for the selected recommendations and changes.
Conclusion
