Business Case Study Analysis

Question 6: Frank’s All-American BarBeQue is planning to significantly expand its takeout business. Currently, customers come into the restaurant and order from the menu. With the new Darien facility and website, customers will be able to order online or fax an order to the restaurant. Frank and Robert have been arguing over how to structure the takeout portion of their operations. Frank wants to maintain the approach where customers order items from the menu. Robert believes that in today’s world, it would be more convenient for customers to order complete prepackaged meals.
Father and son have argued about the nature of these meals.
Frank has suggested a limited number of standard meals that could be prepared during the day and sold in the evening when commuters are returning home. However, this might mean that excess inventory would be built upon unwanted items. Robert wants to offer a greater variety. These would include the main course, two side dishes, and a dessert. Because there could be a large number of combinations, most would have to be made after the receipt of an order. The “rush” to make these meals would drive up costs.
How would you go about pricing these two types of meals? (Hint: review pricing objectives and pricing strategies in the textbook). The question is not wanting you to determine prices (how could you with the limited information? ) but is about the methodology Frank and Robert can use to arrive at suitable prices that can be sustainable for the business (and meet one of the customers perceived pricing objectives.)

Many cover some ideas Robert can use (ie the concepts he is introducing to his father) but not all are explaining how these will alleviate Franks concerns (what are these?) To help convince his father of the benefit of the strategies more could have made use of the business plan to assist in the arguments to Frank.
Most provide a good description of some of what can be done, rather than how it can be used to alleviate Frank’s concerns. There is more needed to convince Frank that you could utilise.

In addition, maybe using some from Characteristics of a Successful Entrepreneur in Module 1 would have helped Robert identify (convince) to his father his appropriate interest after a long absence.

Distribution Channels

There are two high-level types of
distribution channels, direct and indirect. In the direct distribution
channel, goods are moved directly from the Producer to the Consumer.
In the indirect distribution channel, the producer will meet consumer
demand through third -party wholesalers and/or retailers. Direct
channels produce short supply chains, indirect channels produce long
chains.

Instructions!
Research and report on two large
producers, Costco and Apple, and describe in detail which distribution
approach each company uses — direct, indirect, or mixed – for at least
two products in each company.

what makes any news “fake” or “real” … and how can you tell the difference between them?

Today, there’s a lot of talk about so-called “fake” news. This was an idea coined by the current president of the United States. It is unfortunately used to attack the news media — but equally unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately, depending on your point of view) it raises an important question: so how can you trust the news you see, watch, or hear? How can you know what is “fake” as opposed to what is “real”? What is the difference between “fake” and “real” and how can you know that!? This question of the real vs. the fake is exactly what Descartes wanted to settle once and for all.
So, you see, there is a deeper problem here that goes beyondthe Trump name-calling against new reporters as being “fake news”. The question is, what makes any news “fake” or “real” … and how can you tell the difference between them? Trump seems to think he knows — but does he? Do you?
