What are 3 differences between scholarly and popular sources as defined by the video?

So, while I was poking around my resources to find “Annoying Ways People Use Sources” by Stedman, I stumbled upon this video “Scholarly and Popular Sources.” I watched and and thought to myself, “Goodness gracious; that’s dull,” so I am assigning it to you to watch as well. Despite the fact it is not a high-octane or hysterically funny clip, it is informative and short (4min). Seeing how we are working with scholarly research, I though it would be worthwhile to throw in here. Next week, you have more control over the weekly reading.
As always go through the readings and complete the questions below. Again, please NUMBER your ANSWERS! I ask for this every week. Bundling your responses to all these questions into one larger passage often results in some of the questions going unanswered.
Instructions:
1) Please read “Annoying Ways People Use Sources” by Stedman and watch “Scholarly and Popular Articles” from the Carnegie Vincent Library on YouTube (links available in Module 2B on Canvas).
2) Open a new document
3) Format in MLA
4) Respond to the following prompts:
What are 3 differences between scholarly and popular sources as defined by the video?
What are 4 of the annoying ways people use sources as described by Stedman? Make sure to define the “annoyances” and include “the fix” that Stedman explains.
In at least 200 words, explain your experiences with conducting scholarly research. Have you done it in the past? To what degree have you conducted scholarly research? How do you feel about the concept?
Write an MLA Citation for the article “Annoying Ways People Use Sources,” by Stedman.

What was the ultimate goal of the interviews and interrogations and would you have used any different methods to achieve the said goal?

1.)The central issue in The Right to Remain Silent revolves around how to interview and interrogate witnesses and suspects in order to gain information that could benefit your investigation. Explain your choices in this scenario by addressing the following questions.

2)Which techniques did you think were most effective during the interviews and interrogations? What was the ultimate goal of the interviews and interrogations and would you have used any different methods to achieve the said goal?

3)The central issues in Effective Counsel examine the role of the defense attorney and the choices the various members of the courtroom work group must make to ensure that the defendant receives the degree of legal support required by the U.S. Constitution. Explain your choices in this scenario by addressing the following questions:
In this scenario, what is your opinion of the prosecutor’s decision to charge Matt with the terrorism-related crime that carries a sentence of life in prison? What motivation does the prosecutor have to convince Matt to accept the offered plea bargain? Do you see any ethical problems with the prosecutor’s behavior? Explain your answers.

4)In your own words, explain why the Strickland standard makes it so difficult for defendants to claim ineffective assistance of counsel, even in cases—as we saw in this scenario—where the defense attorney falls asleep during the trial. What would be the consequences, both intended and unintended, if this legal standard were changed to focus solely on the defense attorney’s inadequate performance, regardless of the likely guilt of the defendant?

5)The central issues in Rules of Evidence revolve around the role that potentially prejudicial evidence and potentially impartial jurors play in the criminal trial. Explain your choices in this scenario by addressing the following questions:
What are the arguments in favor of withholding evidence of a defendant’s “evil character” (such as a previous conviction for online sex crimes) from the jury? What are the arguments in favor of allowing the jury to hear about such evidence? Which argument do you find more convincing? Why?

6)How does the “beyond a reasonable doubt” standard increase the possibility of a hung jury in a criminal trial? Do you think that a hung jury is a fair result? What would be the positives and negatives of ending the widespread requirement that a jury’s verdict in criminal trials be unanimous? Explain your answers.

7)Describe a correctional facility that would be appropriate for individuals who have been found guilty, and also used the insanity defense. Should all individuals who use the insanity defense be required to enter mental health facilities? Why or why not?

8)What measures do you believe should be taken in order to determine if an individual “qualifies” for use of the insanity defense?

9) Why is a proper Miranda warning significant to an interview or interrogation?

Answer in at least 5 sentences

To illustrate Mill’s concern with the uncultivated making poor decision, consider the following example. Your state government determines that it has a budget surplus of $5 billion that it must spend before the end of the fiscal year. So, the legislature puts the following to a popular vote: ALL citizens currently residing in the state are entitled to either (1) a free college education; or (2) a free lifetime supply of beer. Because the “uncultivated” among you may not be able to distinguish between the “lower” good of free beer and the “higher” good of free education, do you believe that the majority of citizens would choose the beer? In what, if any, ways might decisions such as this lead to the eventual decline of the cultural and intellectual life of your state? Mill argued that we should implement a requirement that people be “competent” judges, familiar with differences, before they could vote. Do you agree? If so, how should we determine who is competent or who is not?

Is there a way to prevent fake advocacy moving forward?

Re-vist the box entitled “Charity as Fraud” (pg. 206). As highlighted in your text, fake advocacy is one of the most disturbing forms of contrepreneurial fraud. Though unfortunate, some charitable organizations have used events such as natural disasters to raise funds; nonetheless, little (if any) money and/or resources, were donated to the affected area(s). Over the next couple of weeks, find an instance of contrepreneurial fraud involving fake advocacy and answer the following questions:
Who was the organization and what were the events surrounding the fraud?
Has the fraud impacted the organization’s ability to garner support and or subsequent donations?
Is there a way to prevent fake advocacy moving forward? If so, what are some preventative measures that can be taken?
Finally, do you regard enterprise crime, contrepreneurial crime, or technocrime, as most likely to flourish in the years ahead, and why?

What does Socrates do in response to hearing the news from the Oracle at Delphi?

This assignment is to read pages 22-32 of Plato’s Apology, (the pages are attached) and answer questions with a strong focus on explaining why it matters or is significant to us. In other words, every question is actually asking “What is Aristotle trying to tell us?”

Please see the document labeled “Sample” so you understand what the assignment calls for and the level of writing I need it to be at. My instructor is a difficult grader so please do not bid on the assignment unless you can deliver the same level of quality.

Aside from the last question, each of your answers should be supported by a quote that is 120 characters or less. After stating the quote, it needs to be explained. So the response to each questions should be in the form of:

Response (answer but much more focus on why it matters to us)
Short quote (to back up your response)
Explanation of the quote

Here are the questions. I have also attached them as a word document.

Reading Response A 1.1: Apology, (pages 22-32)
Reading Questions
1. Who are Socrates “first accusers”? Support your answer with passages from the text.
2. In your own words explain what Socrates first accusers are accusing him of.
3. What does Socrates do in response to hearing the news from the Oracle at Delphi? (See Page 26)
4. What do the poets and writers lack, according to Socrates’ that prevents them from being wise?
5. Does Socrates’ questioning of Euthyphro in the previous dialogue (i.e. Euthyphro) support the claims he is making here? Support your answer by appealing to specific passages from the two texts.
6. Why does Socrates ask if “the man exist who would rather be harmed than benefited by his associates?”
7. In what way does Meletus believe that Socrates corrupts the young?
8. How does Socrates respond to this charge?
9. What evidence does the text provide to support Socrates’ contention that he believes in “spiritual things”?

The following are guidelines on how to answer the questions in the Reading Response:

You should view these questions not as questions being asked by an instructor who already has the “correct” answer in mind but rather as questions being asked by someone who has read the texts and is still trying to figure out what is being said and WHY IT MATTERS—this means, for instance, that it will generally not be helpful to simply say in response to the question something on the order of what was literally said in the text since the person raising the question will have already encountered that and yet the question remains.

In one way or another then every question (REGARDLESS of how it is phrased) is attempting to get you to provide the questioner with some assistance in figuring out what is being said at that point, how it relates to other things in the text, WHY ANY OF IT IS SIGNIFICANT TO US, what it really means, etc. Put another way, and perhaps more simply, you should view each question as my attempt to ask you for your views concerning what so-and-so (the author, character, etc.) is really trying to tell us. THINK: “WHY DOES THIS MATTER TO US?” NOT “why does this matter to the story.” The point of asking what the author is trying to communicate is meant to highlight the presumption that the author is trying to say something that he deems to be significant.

It will not be satisfactory if you simply state our view. Rather, you should be prepared to say WHY you think that is what is being said or WHY we think its significance is thus and such. Absent any capacity on our part to say why we think that is the right thing to say about the text our conversation cannot progress beyond the mere stating of our opinions. Consequently, you should explain why you think your view of the text is justified.

Describe THREE of the key reform movements of the Progressive era.

PROMPT: The Populist and Progressive reformers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries brought about widespread changes to American politics, economics, and society. In this essay, we want you to consider the ethics and civics of the reformers. Describe THREE of the key reform movements of the Progressive era. Who were these reformers and what motivated them? What methods did they use to further their goals through civic engagement? What ethical considerations did they take into account in pushing reforms? How successful were they in achieving these goals? Note 1: Successful responses will consider a broad range of evidence in support of arguments. Take a few moments to consider how you would respond by making a list of both “ethics” and “civics” related to these reformers and reforms. Be sure to have a mixture of big/broad ideas and specific/detailed evidence in your argument. Note 2: We DO NOT want summaries. Summaries will not earn a high grade. “A papers” utilize rule of three analysis (including strong rule of three thesis statements in the introduction and each paragraph of the body), specific and detailed historical facts as evidence, analysis instead of summary, consider change over time and historical geography (as necessary in response to the prompt), and properly cite both primary and secondary sources. Note 3: Required length is 2-3 pages (introduction, 3 paragraphs of the body, conclusion). Must be in Rule of Three format with a introduction and strong thesis statement, 3 paragraphs of the body (each with their own thesis statement – one for each of the three key points of your overall thesis), and conclusion. So a minimum of 5 paragraphs. (2-3 pages) This is a fact based essay, you must provide specific and detailed evidence for your hypotheses. You must utilize a minimum of three primary sources from the assigned materials (primary sources posted in the Blackboard course module OR found under the primary source section of each chapter in American Yawp only; you may not utilize sources linked to in the reference section of American Yawp) as evidence in your essay You must utilize a minimum of three secondary sources from the assigned materials as evidence in your essay You may only use materials assigned in this course for your essay (we have vetted all the materials utilized in this course, other materials may not be appropriate or accurate). If you use outside sources your grade will be docked. DO NOT QUOTE sources, paraphrase in your own words and cite You must consider ethics/ethical decision making in this essay Don’t forget about historical geography, where something takes place matters and it may be important to your argument. You must use Turabian citation style in this essay; all citations must be footnote style citations (no parenthetical cites allowed, no endnotes/works cited at the end, you need footnotes). Be sure to review how to properly cite a primary source that may be contained in another work and be sure to use page numbers where possible. 12 pt type, 1 inch margins, double-spaced The following factors are taken into account when we grade: Rule of three theses – Do you have a well thought out and clear overall thesis in your introduction? Do you have a thesis statement for each of your three paragraphs of the body? Do the paragraphs of the body follow the overall thesis statement? Evidence – You must have solid evidence for each point you raise in the thesis. Evidence is not simply a statement, there must be an explanation of how that evidence supports the thesis statement. Example: If you were writing a paragraph on the causes of the Cold War, you might use the Baruch Plan as an example. Simply writing “the Baruch Plan was a cause of the Cold War” in your paragraph would not be enough and would not be analytical. However, the following sentences do provide a good analysis of this piece of evidence:”One cause of the Cold War was the failure of the United States and the Soviet Union to agree upon a plan for nuclear disarmament after World War II. The Baruch Plan, presented by the US, would maintain the American atomic weapon advantage for the foreseeable future. This played into Stalin’s suspicions of the Americans’ true motivations toward the USSR.” Did you use the minimum number of primary sources? secondary sources? Historical Accuracy, Clarity, And Logic Did you analyze (not summarize)? Is your argument clear and does it make sense? Is it historically accurate? Does your evidence prove your point? Does your analysis answer the prompt? Have you considered the concepts of ethics and civics, change over time, and any historical geography factors in your essay? Proper Citation Have you properly cited? Have you used Turabian/Chicago? You must also FOOTNOTE. Parenthetical cites are NOT allowed. Grammar, Spelling and Mechanics Is the essay up to college standards for grammar and spelling? Is it an analytical essay? Does it meet minimum length and formatting requirements? Describe how the synthesis of the articles informs a gap in the research that your dissertation study will fill.

The literature review of a dissertation is more than a “book report” that summarizes a set of research articles. The literature review is a synthesis of ideas. This synthesis illuminates a gap in the research literature that can be filled by additional research such as a doctoral dissertation. In this assignment, you will synthesize the articles you summarized in the Topic 2 assignment, and you will describe how the synthesis of the articles informs a gap in the research that your dissertation study will fill.

Write a paper (1,250- that synthesizes the 10 studies you summarized in the Topic 2 assignment. Do that by including the following in your paper:
A statement of common findings addressed in each of the articles.
A statement of the conclusions that can be drawn when the articles are taken together as a single entity (synthesis). What is the overall message of the group of articles? (Benchmarks: Critically appraise and synthesize existing research.)
A discussion of how these studies, when taken together, inform the research gap that your dissertation will fill.

Discuss designed experiments and its contribution to product design and process performance.

Discuss designed experiments and its contribution to product design and process performance.
