5-2 Media Project Two: Winning the Ethical Fight

This media project assignment is designed to showcase your understanding of the importance of ethical behavior in a company or organization. You will look at the impact of ethical behavior on creating a positive organizational culture. Does such impact align with your present understanding of systems theory?

Create a video essay or audio recording that reflects your analysis and key content points. See the Module Four resources for guidance on how to create a video submission, and see Module Five’s optional resources for guidance on how to create an audio recording with a PC (Windows-based computer) or Mac. You also have the option of submitting a voice recording or 1-page response paper in lieu of a video essay.

School Lockdown

A local school with children in grades kindergarten through 6 recently had a “lockdown” after the principal received an anonymous call that someone was coming to “shoot up the school.” The principal made an announcement over the loudspeaker instructing everyone in the building to lockdown immediately. The students and teachers knew from previous drills that this meant to hide wherever they were, lock the doors, and remain silent. The teachers and other school personnel were confused and concerned, as they had not been told that a drill was taking place. They tried to remain calm but their worry was apparent to some of the children. Despite being told to be quiet, the children throughout the school were whispering about what they thought might be happening. Some children asked their teachers what was happening but the teachers told them to stay silent and hide. It was clear to many students that their teachers did not know the reason for the lockdown. The lockdown went on for much longer than their usual drills; after 45 minutes of hiding in their locked classrooms, the principal announced that everyone could unlock their doors and go back to their regular routine. The teachers attempted to resume the day’s normal activities, but they were distressed and many of the children were showing signs of trauma.

In your initial post, please answer the following:
What signs of trauma might you see in the children after this experience?
Imagine that you are a teacher or counselor in this school. What would you do to respond to the students’ trauma reactions in the hours after the lockdown? What would you do in the few days that followed? (Refer specifically to the Psychological First Aid information in Content Guide 2 and information from Levine & Kline’s books.)
Imagine that you are a parent of a child in the school and your child came home in distress. What would you do to support your child and to prevent longer-term traumatic reactions to the event?

Reporting Incidents

A newborn infant died after receiving penicillin G benzathine IV. An order for penicillin G benzathine 150,000 units was written for the infant after it was discovered that the mother had contracted syphilis while residing in another state.
Laboratory tests were also ordered, but a decision to treat the infant before results were available was made due to a fear that the mother may not return with the infant for follow-up treatment. The order was misinterpreted by pharmacy at 1.5 million units. Subsequently, two prefilled syringes of 1.2 million units/2mL were dispensed with directions to administer 2.5mL of the drug by the IM route. Due to the volume that would have to be administered to the infant, two nurses investigated if the medication could be given intravenously. After misinterpreting information about the drug in reference texts and via oral communication with the Department of Health, the medication was administered by the IV route, which ultimately caused the infant’s death.
In a 2-page summary:
Who do you feel is responsible for the death of the infant?
What if any can be done to prevent this incident from occurring in the future?
How did this incident happen?
Who should be responsible for reporting the incident? Explain.
Develop an incident reporting tool that could help in evaluating this case.

Topic: Tort Law- the overlap between torts and contracts as well as the overlap of

In what way(s) does the article investigate various points of view and assumptions?

You are to locate one source of pop psychology and one source of empirical research and compare and contrast the merit of the information in each as follows:
Begin by searching in the appropriate place for 2 sources that are fittingly related to each other on any topic in Psychology. Empirical research can only be found in professional journals. The easiest way to find a professional journal article is by accessing PsycINFO through the portal at my.saintleo.edu then locating the online Library. Pop psychology sources are newspapers, news magazines, tabloids, and other self-help articles found either online or on store shelves. Examples include articles by Dr. Phil, Dear Abby, Dr. Laura, Tony Robbins, etc. Articles in Psychology Today and WorldHealth.net are pop psychology and, although they may report on or refer to empirical research, they are not professional journal articles.
To prepare your essay, you should think critically about the merit of the information in each article by asking the following questions about each:
a.) What is the main issue, problem, or intention of the article?
b.) In what way(s) does the article investigate various points of view and assumptions?
c.) What evidence is provided to support the issue?
d.) In what way(s) does the article discuss consequences and implications of the reasoning provided?
e.) In what way(s) does the information provided help you make an informed decision about the purpose?
Now, focus on the answers to the above questions and compare and contrast the 2 sets of information.
Determine what your thesis is and state it clearly and concisely. It should briefly introduce your topic but more importantly should indicate that your purpose is to compare and contrast the merit of the pop psychology article with the merit of the empirical article. This will be the first sentence of your essay.
In the body of your essay, you may do a whole-to-whole comparison of the 2 sets of information or you may do a (less common) point-to-point comparison. For a whole-to-whole comparison, address the information about one of the articles by discussing its merit using the critical thinking concepts above, then, do the same for the second article. For point-by-point, you should address the first important point about one article then that same point about the other, discuss a second point about one then the other, and so on. You will want to be very thorough in the body as this is a very large percentage of your grade on the essay.
Your conclusion should summarize how the merit of the pop psychology article compares and contrasts with the merit of the empirical article, thus reaffirming your thesis without restating it. This is where you conclude with inferences, clearly address implications or consequences of accepting the given information, and culminate any assertions.
Additional Tips
Be certain to carefully review the information for specific directions and refer to the Grading Rubric for information on how your writing assignment will be graded. You are to write 500 words / 2 pages. A 50 word leeway will be accepted; otherwise points may be deducted. Use basic APA style guidelines such as 1″ margins, 12 point Times New Roman font, double-spaced, and when citing your sources and listing your References.

Takehome” Midterm Exam / E F316N/CL S315: Masterworks of Literature: World / Summer 2021 / Prof. Nehring
Due: Friday, 25 June, by 5:00 p.m. Please use **Microsoft Word,** include **your email address** in your header at the beginning of the paper, and send the essay as an email attachment to **my UT email address, nehring@utexas.edu** (Don’t use Canvas messaging.)
Instructions: Your essay should be 1000-1250 words in length. (With one-inch margins, that’s about four to five pages.) Treat the essay as a sit-down exam, not a formal paper: gather your materials, give them some thought, and start writing. You should certainly proofread the result, but don’t worry about extensive revision.
I would like to see 1) an introduction that includes brief definition of key ideas and/or issues and a thesis that expresses your coverage and argument, and 2) clearly defined paragraph topics in the body of the paper. If you introduce a new topic simply by announcing something along the lines of “Now I’m moving on to the next writer,” you haven’t given the exam enough thought.
Please note that I expect you to supply evidence of reading—to supply some citation, that is, of the works you discuss. At the same time, don’t pad your essay with quotations, either. Four or five lines of verse or three or four sentences from prose in the course of a paragraph will be fine, provided they are relevant to your discussion. Those lines and/or sentences do not have to be continuous—in fact, it would be better if your examples came from different places in a work.
A paper with little or no citation cannot receive a grade higher than a ‘C.’
