African American Theatre Analysis Outline and Paper
Wine in the Wilderness by Alice Childress
– PLEASE READ PDF ATTACHMENT FOR THE PLAY IN QUESTION
Afterwards write an analysis paper using the format and the information from the Analysis Criteria. This paper must be at least 1000 words in length and includes all 9 of the analysis components. Be certain to cite all of your sources, unless the the actual play / textbook it self. Utilize the subject from your outline of the play to support your conclusions.
Each analysis paper will contain 9 sections/paragraphs that break the play into following components in this order:
1. Plot Summary of the play
2. Social climate of the play
3. Cultural Climate of the play
4. Political Climate of the play
5. Economic Climate of the play
6. Dramatic Purpose OR Theme of the play
7. Perception of Reality of the play
8. How are Bias, Stereotypes, and Prejudices dealt with in the play
9. Playwright’s Attributes
DETAILS AND DEFINITIONS FOR EACH COMPONENT
1. Plot: The sequence and pattern of events of a drama
Summary: Presented in a condensed form
The plot summary needs to have a beginning, a middle, and an ending of the play. Since the plot summary is “condensed” it should be a paragraph of approximately half a page in length (approximately 150 words).
a. Beginning: The beginning clarifies the initial setting of the play: including the time period, the locale, the social context, the characters, and the characters’ relationship with each other, and prior events mentioned towards the beginning of the play. Most importantly the beginning of the play introduces the “main conflict” of the plot of the play.
b. Middle: The middle of the play reveals the development of the “main conflict of the play; basically, this describes what happens in the play sequentially which are problematic complications with the characters. These problems usually develop because of the conflict in desires of the characters with themselves, other characters, the environment, etc.
c. End: The end of the play usually builds to a climax; when the conflicts culminate to the highest point of tension in the play. Usually the the protagonist must make a major decision, take a life changing action, etc. This climax usually leads to a resolution of some kind at the end of the play.
Climate: a prevailing condition, atmosphere and/or attitude the affects life
2. Social: Of, or pertaining to society or communal living; living in an organized group
Social Climate is about people who are characters in the play and any and all people and groups of people mentioned in the play. Students are required to describe three main examples of “Social Climate” and list at least 7 more.
3. Cultural: The totality of socially transmitted patterns of human activity within a community or social group and the symbolic structures that give significance to such activity. Customs, laws, dress, architectural style, social standards, religious beliefs, and transitions are all examples of cultural elements. Although political and economic structure, as well as stereotypes and biases could be considered cultural, these components have their own separate paragraphs. Students are required to describe three main examples of “Cultural Climate” and list at least 7 more.
4. Political : Of, or pertaining to, or dealing with the study of the structure, or affairs of government, family, politics, the state, tribes, gangs, nations, cities, or any other group. Prosecutor Report
Prosecutor’s Report

As part of their initiation into the Westside Boys Gang two men decided to go on a vehicle theft rampage in Silver Spring, MD to raise money for the gang. The men agreed to commit the thefts on the evening of March 12th. They agreed that Offender A would drive Offender B to the locations of the targeted vehicles. Offenders B would be responsible for the actual theft of the vehicles and the transportation of the vehicles to the gang’s chop shop. In the event they needed to make a quick exit from the targeted locations Offender A would act as their get-away driver.
In preparation for the heist, Offender A stole a green Honda Civic to drive during the crime spree. Offender B purchased two UZI semiautomatic pistols to use during the commission to the thefts. (Each offender would be armed with one of the above listed weapons on the night of the thefts in the event they ran into problems.) [Hint: I chose the above weapons for a reason. They are not defined as fully automatic weapons for purposes of the Uniform Machine Gun Act. Please review the other Maryland firearms statutes.]
On the day of the crime the men met up to go over the plan at Offender A’s house. They both promised that no one would be killed during the events. When they reached the first targeted house, Offender B put on a ski mask and armed himself with an UZI. He entered a Potomac, MD property and stole a 2017 BMW from the driveway. Offenders A & B quickly drove the vehicle to the chop shop and returned to the area for more vehicles.
The second Potomac, MD home required Offender B to enter an attached residential garage to steal a 2016 Porsche 911. (Offender A had been monitoring the home during the week and it appeared that the homeowner was away on business.) Offender B broke into the garage through a side exterior door and began to work on the car. The homeowner entered the garage as a result of the noise. Offender B quickly shot the homeowner in the chest. The homeowner died as a result of the bullet wound. Offender B exited the home to meet up with Offender A so they could flee the scene.
Offender B met Offender A at the end of the road and jump into the Honda Civic. Offender A exited the neighborhood at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was observed driving erratically by a Montgomery County police officer that was patrolling the area. The officer tried to stop the vehicle (using his emergency lights and siren) for the erratic driving. The men attempted to evade the police which resulted in a high speed chase. Offender A eventually crashed the Honda Civic. The two men fled on foot and physically fought with the officers when the officers attempted to apprehend them. The men were eventually restrained and arrested by the police.
As the prosecutor what crimes would you charge each of the offenders with? Use the Maryland Code (statutes) to identify the specific statutory codes for the crimes that you would charge them with. When choosing a statute you should be able to identify what specific facts or evidence (from the above narrative) you would use to meet the requirements of the statute. In addition, you need to provide the maximum statutory penalty for each of the offenses and indicate whether the legislature has defined the offense as a felony or a misdemeanor. (This is for the Criminal Law Statutes only. You do not need to fill out this box of the chart for charges under the Transportation section of the code.) You should attempt to charge the offenders with as many crimes as you can reasonably identify. Use the following chart format to collect your information. Please see the rubric in the course syllabus for further grading details.

SCI 200 Project Part Two Guidelines and Rubric
Overview
Basic scientific literacy is essential for understanding real-world applications of the natural sciences. As a consumer and voter, you will be faced with issues that require a basic understanding of science. For example, you might ask yourself the following questions: How can genetically modified foods affect my health? Should scientists be held liable for not predicting earthquakes that led to human casualties, as they were in Italy in 2012? Is anthropogenic climate change real? Is fracking a concern where I live? Because of the prevalence of natural science issues such as these, it is important to understand basic natural science concepts and how they impact our daily lives.
The project for this course has two parts. In part one, you conducted a research investigation that examined an issue in the natural sciences. You identified appropriate resources for investigating the issue you selected, used these resources to develop a question related to the issue, and applied natural science principles to the issue and question. In addition, you identified an audience who would be interested in the selected issue. In Part Two, you will develop a presentation for the audience you identified in Part One. In your presentation, you will explain how scientific thinking has impacted you and your audience, supporting your claims with evidence.
Part Two of this project addresses the following course outcomes:
● Illustrate the impact of scientific thinking on personal and professional experiences
● Communicate effectively to specific audiences in examining fundamental aspects of the natural world
● Utilize empirical evidence in drawing conclusions about the impact of contemporary scientific issues on individuals and society
Prompt
Referring to your research investigation, create a presentation that explains how scientific thinking has impacted you and discusses the impact of your selected issue on your audience.
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:
Provide a brief overview of the scientific background of your issue and question. How does the issue relate to the natural sciences?
Explain how the issue impacts the audience. In other words, how is the issue relevant to members of the audience? Why should the audience care about
the response to your question or the outcome of your hypothesis? Support your response with specific examples from your research investigation.
Describe the empirical evidence you have to support your conclusions about the impact of the issue on you personally and on your audience. Support
your response with specific examples from your research investigation.
Explain why this issue is important to you personally. In other words, why did you select this issue to investigate?
1
Illustrate how your investigation of the issue impacted the way you thought about the issue. In other words, how did thinking like a scientist to research, develop a question, and formulate a hypothesis affect what you thought about the issue you selected? How did scientific thinking change the lens through which you viewed the issue? Support your response with specific examples from your research investigation.
Communicate your message in a way that is tailored to your specific audience. For instance, you could consider your vocabulary, your audience’s potential knowledge of current natural science (or lack thereof), and what is specifically important to the audience.
Project Part Two Rubric
Guidelines for Submission: Your presentation should have approximately 5–7 slides in Prezi, PowerPoint, or another comparable presentation tool. Make sure to include your speaker notes so that your instructor knows what you would say if you were actually giving the presentation. The Effects of adopting common core standards
Your assignment this week is to write a four to five page literature review. Writing a literature review, like writing in APA style, is a new way of writing for most people. It can be like learning a new language. Different rules apply. Things like “person” – (first person – “I”), second person (you), third person – “According to Jones”(2016) matter. The reason for the “person” issue is that the literature review is exactly that – a review of what others have written on the topic of interest to the author. The author of the review is constructing an argument/point of view using the work of others as the building blocks for the argument/point of view. Normally, using “I”, “I think” or “in my experience” are words that indicate an individual’s thoughts, not what the literature has to say on a topic.
For this case study, I took the postion as being FOR the adoption of Common CCore Standards to all states. The articles chosen should align with that position. I have also included an assignment from last week to display my writting. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions regarding the assignment. THank you !
