Contemporary Business Practices Article summary

During the term, you will research and summarize two articles of your choosing concerning a recent (less than one year) decision made by a private for-profit business. The decision may be financial (mergers, new share issue, IPO), product-related (line extension, product introduction, ingredient changes), personnel-related (hiring, firing, training), market-related (promotional, location, market entry/exit), or any other changes that companies make. The article that you summarize should be at least 8 paragraphs and not a short blurb on CNN.com. The written summary should include:
What is the source and subject of the article? (A short description of the details of the article and the decision and actions taken by the firm)
How do the actions described in the article contribute to the firm’s success? Note: you may disagree with whether the decision will actually benefit the firm.
How is this article relevant to our course/today’s lesson?
You will present your analysis in a very concise 1-page paper. Because the articles may address many issues, I suggest that you write a 3-4 page paper first, then condense it down to a single page.
Relevant chapters and what is in them provided in pdf, if you have more questions please ask.

By consistently completing a reflection journal, you will build a record of important resources, new insights, action plans, and future directions for research and career.

Diary of the Planet

Earthweek Diary
Hi Class! Wow – Week THREE, already?! Well – Congratulations! Most of you are doing great posting to the EarthWeek discussions! This week we your First Exam (avail. Monday and Tuesday 6/21-22) -and this week’s EarthWeek Diary posting. Also new Chapters 7 & 8 are ready in the Module -so feel free to scan ahead to that next segment whenever you’re ready.
Remember this EarthWeek Discussion is like an Online “Show&Tell” – please go find and “SHOW” us something (a map, photograph, diagram, etc.) – and “TELL” us about it – what did you find out in addition to what is in the EarthWeek Diary?
Have a great week!
If a refresher on WHAT TO DO and how to participate for this assignment is needed, please see the Discussion Instructions document – provided the first week. Please be sure to read and follow the instructions before posting a response in the discussion.
Briefly:
Thoroughly read through the 1-page Earthweek Diary below. THEN select ONE featured topic in the Diary that you found especially interesting or significant in some way.
Do a quick search to find out anything more that you can about the topic that interested you. Or select a similar, related item you discover in your search. It need not be of the specific example in the Diary. Select a map, photo, video clip, document, or other item to share and then,
POST to the discussion board a comment or brief description of what you found out and include the photo, map, etc. in your posting so the entire class can check it out and learn something new as well. That’s it! For maps and photos especially, embed the actual map or photo instead of just a LINK to the photo. SHOW us in your posting. Also, if also adding a link, for e.g., video clips or web site links – be sure to INSERT > LINK > to enter the URL so it is “HOT” for us anxious readers who want to just click and go see for ourselves!
Notes:
Keep it brief – a few sentences to a paragraph or so is all that is required. Pick a single concept or point or two to remark upon – this is not the place for a FULL book report.
It’s perfectly OK to remark on a topic that someone has already contributed on. Simply add to the discussion with a different map, photo, or link, and offer your own commentary.
You may freely reply to each others posts, introduce yourselves to each other, share additional stories if you like. Only your original discussion posting on the Weekly Diary topic you selected is required and counted for point value however. Anything additional in the way of comments you contribute between each other are quite welcome, but optional.
OK! Here’s the CURRENT Earthweek Diary for the week ending Friday, June 18, 2021. Look it over, find something out that you can add to any one item (don’t forget to grab a map, photo, doc or link!) – and then Post to Share!

Integration Reading “QQR”

Complete a paper using the QQR (question, quotation, and reflection) approach on the related reading found for this assignment. The related reading is attached to this assignment. It is by Jeeves & Ludwig, not from your textbook.
The typed, 3-page QQR includes the following components: Question, Quotation, and Reflection.
Question:
Three Questions prompted by the assigned reading: A good question is both a question that your fellow students could answer and a question that requires analysis, synthesis, interpretation, and critical thinking in order to answer it. You don’t necessarily have to have an answer to your question, indeed the most interesting questions often don’t have a definitive answer. Here are some types of questions that would meet this requirement:
Analysis: Questions beginning with “Why…” “How would you explain…” “What is the importance of…” “What is the meaning of”
Compare and contrast: “Compare…” “Contrast…” “What is the difference between…” “What is the similarity between…”
Cause and effect: “What are the causes/results of…” “What connection is there between…”
Clarification: “What is meant by…” “Explain how…”
Quotation
Three Quotations from the reading, selected as particularly compelling or controversial (each student must cite the page number in the reading that each quote is taken from)
Reflection
A reaction paper prompted by the reading. What questions, comments, controversies, etc. came to mind while reading the material? How do you integrate your faith and the content of each reading?
