An interesting movie, which very respectfully portrays schizophrenia is The Soloist. It portrays the life of the very talented musician, Nathanial Ayers. The movie does a good job portraying the downward drift theory of schizophrenia. In essence, the downward drift theory states that regardless of the schizophrenic’s socioeconomic status in the community prior to the disorder, many suffering with the disorder will drift downward in society to a lower socioeconomic level.
