Write an essay summarizing these articles, analyzing the authors arguments, and comparing their views. Start your essay by examining the main issues these letters are addressing? Some questions to consider about these sources are: What was Galileos objection to using the Bible as a source of knowledge of physical things? According to him, how did one acquire knowledge of nature? What did Galileo believe should be the basis of scientific endeavors? Were science and religion at odds? Why and on what grounds did Bellarmine reject Copernican theory? Why did he believe it had to be rejected? What does Bellarmine suggest happen if a true demonstration of Copernican ideas occurs?

Review 1.3.2 “The Vlasovic Case” on pages 9-10. Compare and contrast the ways that this case is similar to and different from the first week’s 1.1 “Impaired Driver Case” on page 1. In doing so discuss moral cases versus ethical cases. The goal of this discussion is to begin to think in terms of morals and ethics.

Select one of the prompts to respond to. Your essay should be 2-3 pages, follow MLA Style and effectively incorporate your primary source (Learning to Read and Write). You must use at least two passages/references from the text in your essay and not more than three. General summary does not count towards this. Your essay should have an introduction, clear thesis/focus, body/development paragraphs, and a conclusion.

Has your viewpoint on reading and writing changed since reading Douglass Learning to Read and Write? If so, what has changed, why did it change, and why is this important? With this option you will (most likely) focus on why your perception/view on reading and writing has changed because of Douglass. You will use a combination of your experiences and Douglass. You should address what is significant/relevant about this in 2021.

Douglass leads us through his process of becoming literate; was Douglass intelligent prior to learning to read and write? Support and develop your answer. With this option you will take a clear position on the question, directly answer it, and then support and develop that answer. You should also address what is significant/relevant about your answer in 2021.
Remember that you need to incorporate Douglass 2-3 times in your essay. When incorporating a source, you need to do three things (as we reviewed in class).

Introduce the author and title of the piece and signal the use of the quote or paraphrase
Use the quote/paraphrase and cite (Last name).
Follow up on ithow does this support your point, relate to the theme, conflict with your experiences, etc.
