Background:
This year is a census year. Canada’s Census Program provides a statistical portrait of the country every five years through the Census of Population and Census of Agriculture. The Census of Population provides demographic and social information vital for planning services including child care, schooling, family services and skills training for employment. The Census of Agriculture provides data that is used to make informed decisions about business management strategies, agricultural policies, programs and services that directly affect farmers and rural communities. You will use census data to choose one geographic region typifying the core and another geographic region typifying the periphery within BC.
Write a two-paged report which explains why your chosen geographic regions are considered to be in the core or in the periphery. Refer to census data.

Influence of media ownership on televised coverage of the ENDSARS protests in Nigeria
ENDSARS became a thing of concern in Nigeria and the diaspora after the emergence on social media a video in which a police officer belonging to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) a unit of the Nigerian Police Force, shot a young man in Ughelli, Delta State, pushed his body out of the car and drove off with the dead mans Lexus SUV. The protest demanded the disbandment of SARS for numerous infractions and abuse of power by members of the unit including harassment, torture, inhuman and degrading treatment, and extra-judicial killings of their victims. The protest participants were largely youths and young adults who decried the harassments, assaults, and killings by the members of the dreaded SARS and the Nigeria Police in general. The peaceful protest which drew its strength and coordination from social media was widely covered by the media in Nigeria.
It was intriguing to see how the media in Nigeria reported the protest and this was no doubt a reflection of the different ownership structure of the media in Nigeria. It is pertinent to note that the use of media as intricated in this paper refers to only broadcast media and is limited strictly to Television Continental (TVC), Lagos Television (LTV), Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Channels Television, Arise Television, Silverbird Television, Africa Independent Television (AIT). The ownership structure of these media ranges from private, political, state, and federal government ownerships.
The major objective of this paper is to determine whether, how, why and to what extent the media ownership structure in Nigeria affected the coverage and broadcast of the ENDSARS peaceful protest which later deteriorated into a civil unrest. This paper will do an comparative analysis of the coverage by the media with different ownership structures.
The paper will adopt a mix method of research (triangulation) – quantitative and qualitative methods. It will involve the administration of surveys on participants the content analysis of the media coverage and broadcasts of the EARSARS protest.
It would be impossible to study the entire Nigeria and beyond where these media broadcasts are received hence the need to limit the scope of the study to some parts of Lagos and Abuja.

In the 4th quarter of 2018, Amazon reported a record $72.4 billion in revenues, which beat analysts’ expectations as well as its previous year’s 4th quarter earnings of $60.5 billion. Net income was $3 billion, which was also a record for a quarter, beating the previous year’s 4th quarter by over 50%. Since it was opened to the public for business selling books in 1995, Amazon has expanded into other lines of business, blindsided retail stores of virtually all kinds, putting many stores and chains out of business. Amazon has also expanded into other lines of business, such as web services, groceries, and media production and distribution. Amazon is currently working on adding several different healthcare services, creating Amazon Go! stores that require no checkout counters, and even building its own product delivery network.v

It is easy to consider Amazon as a firm having instant success, but it began by targeting bookstores as Cadabra in 1994 in a Seattle basement, with initial funding from the parents of then 30yearold CEO Jeffrey Bezos. Within a year, Bezos decided he had to rename the site due to some confusion about the name, and also because of his desire to reflect a strategic vision of Amazon.com becoming Earth’s Biggest Bookstore, just as Amazon is the Earth’s biggest river. By the end of 1996, Amazon tallied almost $16 million in sales. After an IPO in 1997, Amazon shipped its 1 millionth order.

While this might not seem to dispel the instant success, myth mentioned above, a deeper look is quite interesting. You might be surprised to learn that Amazon operated at a loss for just over 9 years. In fact, the losses increased as revenue increased, which was contrary to expectations at first glance. A deeper look reveals that the losses resulted from Amazon’s reinvestment that focused on expansion and growth. But how did it eventually recover from what seemed at the time to be losses that appeared to be spiraling out of control? Is there a secret to its eventual success?

In 2012, Bezos was reported to have changed the vision from Earth’s Biggest Bookstore to the Biggest Store on Earth. Currently, Amazon boasts a more ambitious strategic vision of having Earth’s biggest selection and being the Earth’s most customercentric company.

Bezos has ascribed its success to using a flywheel strategy where lower prices stimulate sales, which allows fixed costs to be spread over more items, lowering costs in the long run. A flywheel is a heavy object, which takes great force to move it, but once it moves, it has inertia that makes it difficult to slow or stop it.

Bezos explains that feeding the movement of the flywheel can occur in many different ways besides merely lowering prices. Procuring the Whole Foods chain not only builds revenues but also provides potential for online grocery sales because the widely dispersed inventories in those stores can enable them to serve as additional distribution centers.
