Signature Assignment: AntiVirus and NMAP Scans

Complete the lab AntiVirus and NMAP Scans.

Capture screenshots for each task while completing the exercise. Paste the screenshots in a Word document.

At the end of the lab, you will be asked to respond to the following in a 2- to 2-page response at the end of your Microsoft Word document:
Most network breaches go undetected for weeks or even months, and an attacker usually takes steps to be much more careful than our scans were. With that in mind, write a short paragraph describing how the default Windows firewall and security settings might contribute to this inability to detect an attacker probing from inside your network.
This was just a single system on a local LAN. How much more complicated would this process be for 100 computers? What about an enterprise with 10,000 computers on their LAN/WAN?
Consider a cloud-hosted Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) environment with many new, Internet-accessible systems regularly being built and brought online. What advantages or challenges might there be protecting such systems from malware and from attack?
Finally, conclude this weeks assignment with a page explaining how the same types of tools demonstrated in this lab might be used by an infrastructure administrator to help secure an environment.

Book Research

This project is an exploration of canon formation – specifically, the ways in which some literary works are considered “major” while others are marginalized as “minor” or even “unimportant.” Often genre work (like most of your reading list for this semester — horror, mystery, fantasy, speculative, etc.) is dismissed by literary critics as being irrelevant to literature. However, you will have noticed that certain pieces dismissed as “genre” early in their published existence are now considered canonical.
Your task, then, will be to select a particular, recent (original publication no earlier than 2015) written fiction text (prose or poetry, and it must be novel-length) that is a “genre” work that targets a non-juvenile audience (no novels / texts marketed as Young Adult or Juvenile-targeted fiction) and is written by a British author and write a paper that
A) presents a brief account of the writer’s career to contextualize the writing of the work (as an introductory movement; you are not writing a biography here),
B) provides a detailed analysis of the text in a variety of manners:
1) in relation to the social, political, and/or religious events of the time of its writing (new historicism)
2) an exploration of the literary and/or rhetorical tropes used in the work (a close, text-based analysis), and
3) an analysis via a defined literary theory of that work,
and
C) argues for its inclusion in (or exclusion from) the canon of major British works of literature.
The essay is to be a minimum of 3000 words in length, follow MLA format (heading on first page – no cover sheet), and include a works cited page and parenthetical citations, using sources to support your analysis and evaluation of the work and author. Be aware that the matter of MLA requirements (the header, the first page information, the title, and the work cited entry list, which must consist of the 5-7 sources used in the essay [including the primary source analyzed]), do not count toward the required length for this assignment; any particularly large quotations (especially block quotations) also are not part of the required word count.
All sources, with the sole exception of the primary text being analyzed, MUST at minimum be college-level academic sources. You may use .edu sources and the HCC library databases. Any other source type will render the submission unacceptable.
Via email, by the deadline for submitting the research essay, you MUST have emailed to me digital copies of all source material used, with the particular passages / information appearing in the essay clearly marked (i.e., highlighted). I do not need a copy of your primary text. It do, however, need to be able to read it myself. Be sure that all your works cited entries are correct to the format in which you accessed the source.
The research essay itself MUST be submitted via its designated depository no later than the deadline already established. No emailed work or file attached to comments in the depository will be evaluated for a grade.
Grade Rubric
Your submission must be an original, unique, self-produced work complying completely with MLA requirements regarding both formatting and citations It also must meet all minimum requirements. Otherwise, it earns an automatic zero; any evidence of plagiarism will result in an F in the class.
MECHANICSYou are expected to proofread effectively and accurately. Any essay submitted with surface errors will have the result of a reduction of the grade by 5 points per each instance of any error compared the grade it would have earned for content without the errors. And, yes, commas matter, even the ones before conjunctions in lists. Simply consider this class writing assignments as exercises in the correct use of the Oxford comma.
MLA assumed knowledge at this point. Formatting (whole essay, first-page information, header, margins, quotations [block and internal to sentences corrected for grammar]), parenthetical citations, and works cited entries are all things you are expected to know how to do. Errors in MLA formatting will result in a minimum of 10 points being deducted from the overall grade of the assignment. Errors in citations and/or works cited entries will result in an automatic zero for the assignment with no option for correction and resubmission.
CONTENT
1) present a short account of the writer’s career (10%)
2) provide an original, three-tiered analysis of the work (60%)
3) argue for the inclusion or exclusion of the work from the canon of British literature (20%)
4) have a useful introduction setting up a provable thesis, transitions, attributive tags to source materials that serve the overall effort of the essay, and a reasoned and viable conclusion based upon the evaluation and analysis committed in the body of the essay (10%)

The book I chose for my project is “The Girl with the Louding Voice” by Abi Dare.

The text I have chosen for my paper is “The Girl with the Louding Voice” by Abi Dare. My reason for choosing this novel is the meaning behind it. Dare’s novel focuses on the struggle of a young girl trying to make it out of poverty. Her work touches base with a lot of social issues in today’s society. It focuses on being able to express yourself and being bold enough to speak up for yourself. Adunni (the main character) goes through various trials and tribulations before she finally has the courage to put her foot down. Dare’s book is an amazing work of literature because there are many young girls who are like Adunni that are being exploited and have no way of escaping, hence why here book sheds light on such a sensitive matter.

Introduction to Statistics: Critical Assignment MUST INCLUDE EXCEL SHEET

The major shopping areas in the community of Springdale include Springdale Mall, West Mall, and the downtown area on Main Street. A telephone survey has been conducted to identify strengths and weaknesses of these areas and to find out how they fit into the shopping activities of local residents. The 150 respondents were also asked to provide information about themselves and their shopping habits. The data are provided in the file SHOPPING. The variables in the survey can be found in the file CODING.
The contingency tables and relative frequency probabilities in this exercise are based on the Springdale Shopping Survey database. Information like that gained from the two parts of this exercise could provide helpful insights into the nature of the respondents, their perceptions, and their spending behaviors. In particular, part 2 focuses on how conditional probabilities related to spending behavior might vary, depending on the gender of the respondent.
NOTE: Be sure to use five (5) decimal places for your probabilities in the report, as some of them will be quite small. Do not convert to percentages as we are interested in probabilities only here.
Based on the relative frequencies for responses to each variable, determine the probability that a randomly selected respondent from:
SPRSPEND [variable 4] spends at least $15 during a trip to Springdale Mall.
DOWSPEND [variable 5] spends at least $15 during a trip to Downtown.
WESSPEND [variable 6] spends at least $15 during a trip to West Mall.
Comparing the preceding probabilities, rank the areas from strongest to weakest in terms of the amount of money a shopper spends during a typical shopping visit.
Based on the relative frequencies for responses to each variable, determine the probability that a randomly selected respondent from:
BSTQUALI [variable 11] feels that Springdale Mall has the highest-quality goods.
BSTQUALI [variable 11] feels that Downtown has the highest-quality goods.
BSTQUALI [variable 11] feels that West Mall has the highest-quality goods.
Comparing the preceding probabilities, rank the areas from strongest to weakest in terms of the quality of goods offered.
Set up a contingency table for the appropriate variables given, and then determine the following probabilities:
SPRSPEND and RESPGEND [variables 4 and 26] Given that the random respondent is a female, what is the probability that she spends at least $15 during a trip to Springdale Mall? Is a male more likely or less likely than a female to spend at least $15 during a visit to this area?
DOWSPEND and RESPGEND [variables 5 and 26] Given that the random respondent is a female, what is the probability that she spends at least $15 during a trip to Downtown? Is a male more likely or less likely than a female to spend at least $15 during a visit to this area?
WESSPEND and RESPGEND [variables 6 and 26] Given that the random respondent is a female, what is the probability that she spends at least $15 during a trip to West Mall? Is a male more likely or less likely than a female to spend at least $15 during a visit to this area?
Based on the preceding probabilities, rank the shopping areas where males and females are most likely to least likely to spend $15 or more during a shopping visit.
Requirements:
The introduction should describe or summarize the topic or problem. It might discuss the general applications of the topic or it might introduce the unique terminology associated with the topic.
The body of your paper should address the questions posed in the problem. Explain how you approached and answered the question or solved the problem, and, for each question, show all steps involved. Be sure this is in paragraph format, not numbered answers like a homework assignment.
The conclusion should summarize your thoughts about what you have determined from your analysis in completing the assignment. Nothing new should be introduced in the conclusion that was not previously discussed in the body paragraphs.
Include any tables of data or calculations, calculated values, and/or graphs referenced in the paper. (Note: The minimum required length excludes any tables or graphs.
NOTE: You MUST submit your Excel file with your report. This will allow you to qualify for consideration for partial credit if any errors are found in your report.
