Writing
the Monograph
Typically,
a Monograph is an authoritative paper on one subject. In this class, we are
going to write a series of shorter Monographs with specific topics related to
Health Care Ethics and Decision Making.
Due
to the nature of this course, some of the content of the Monograph may deal
with uncomfortable topics and may touch on sincerely held personal beliefs. It
is acceptable to share these beliefs. Remember, there is a difference between
religion and ethics. This is a course on ethics. My opinion may differ from
yours on some topics, but use your words to support your Monograph. Full credit
is not dependent on writing what you think the professor wants to hear.
Use
proper grammar and complete sentences in your Monographs. Use the text and
readings to support your comments, or conduct outside research. Use APA format
for citing sources in your Monograph. It is expected that each Monograph will
utilize a minimum of three sources.
Feel
free to use any material from the text, the readings, or other legitimate
sources on the Internet. Opinion posts, blogs, editorials, gifs or memes are
not legitimate sources. Be sure to cite your sources.
Length and format: In general, each Monograph should be no more
than TWO pages. It is acceptable to conclude your Monograph; press enter two
times and add your references at the bottom of page two. If necessary, ONLY
your references can be placed on page three of your Monograph. The expectation of
the Monographs is to present your thoughts concisely within the scope of two (2)
typed pages (i.e. the Executive Summary concept).
Basics of a Monograph Format:
There
should be uniform margins of at least one-inch at the top, bottom, left,
and right sides of your Monograph.
Your
Monograph should be double-spaced.
Identify
your Monograph in the HEADER your Course
Identifier, Your title of the Monograph, and your name.
The
title of your Monograph should be concise and clearly describe what you
are writing about, and not just the title of the Article.
Your
Monograph should also include a reference list., additional to the 2-page written discussion. Located
at the end of your Monograph, the reference section is a list of all the
sources that were cited. References should be listed alphabetically by the
last name of the author, and they should also be double-spaced.
The
first word of each paragraph in your Monograph should be indented one-half
inch.
Use
Times New Roman size 12 font.
Make
sure that your writing is concise.
Watch carefully for typos and
grammar errors.

DQ1
Models that pertain to the distribution of a resource within supply chains are often referred to as networks. Distribution among these networks is key to the success of a business while also keeping cost production at a minimum. Discuss at least three ways that linear optimization models can be applied to both physical as well as abstract network problems to increase efficiency in supply chain management.

DQ2
Solving shortest-route problems enables a business organization to use their resources more efficiently and minimize expenditures, thereby increasing overall production and profit. Consider the business or industry in which you work. What is a process that could be improved by the application of a shortest route linear programming model? How would this model improve production, profit, and/or efficiency?

A supply chain is defined as a set of all interconnected resources used to produce and distribute a product (Anderson et al., 2016, p. 425). According to Anderson et al., there are two common problems which are transportation and transshipment problems (2016). The objective of transportation is to get a product from the manufacturer to the customer as quickly and economically as possible. Linear programming might be able to find a product closer to the demand center. Linear programming may also identify changes in the marketplace and allow the manufacturer to respond more quickly to surges and lulls in the cycle of the product. It can also be used to determine the best and least effective route, maximize profits or revenues, and make the most of route capacities or determine unacceptable routes. Linear programming models would be effective with the supply chain at the hospital because there are times where we run out of supplies every other day depending on the frequent use. We run into many issues where products are on backorder or we weren’t able to place the order in time for overnight shipments.

Thinking about the three ways that linear optimization models can be applied to both physical and and abstract way network problems, I have come up with the following; marketplace, supply and demand of products and maximizing revenue of products. Now, in terms of increasing efficiency within the supply chain management, all of the following mentioned above are some of the main contributing factors of resources that can quickly identify change in workplaces as well as building revenue. According to the text, “A supply chain is defined as a set of all interconnected resources used to produce and distribute a product (Anderson et al. 2016)”. It’s important to understand all potential issues that can come about in many organizations and using the linear optimization models these inevitable issues can be better solved and organizations can have better ways at figuring out to combat such issues.

Before you start reading and discussing History, you are going to DO History.
You need to find someone (family, neighbor, coworker etc) who is of at least 1 generation older than you (that means they are at least 18 years older than you) and interview them about their life as a child/ growing up, or adult life. That can be face to face or over the phone- not email or text- you have to have a conversation. You decide what to ask, or sometimes the person being interviewed likes to talk and you just need to listen. They may focus on one particular area of their life and that’s okay. They are telling you their History.
After interviewing someone, you will turn that in to a narrative (a story). Do not list question and response. Write a story of that person. For instance, “My Grandmother, Mary was born in San Antonio, in 1940. She remembers being little and hearing about the war” . You can use their name or not. Up to you. This should be 2-3 pages long.
If you have no idea what to ask, I am including 3 pages of potential questions. You DO NOT have to use any of them. They are just there to provide a guide for you if needed.
On a personal note, I think this is a great time to sit and talk with family members, especially older ones. I have done this for several years and students learn a lot about their family they never knew. But that is my suggestions- you may not have family to talk with. But if you do, this is a great opportunity.
