INTRODUCTION
When looking for a job, one of your essential tasks is to craft an ideal elevator pitch.
What is an Elevator Pitch?
This is a normally a 60 second well-prepared business description of what you do and why you are the perfect candidate for the position.
Why Is Having an Elevator Pitch So Important?
You only have one to two minutes to make a powerful first impression. You need to grab them quickly or lose them forever.
Your “Elevator Pitch” should be interesting, clear, succinct, polished, and professional and accurate whether describing your qualifications to a potential employer or providing expertise on a product or service to a customer.
ASSIGNMENT – Elevator Pitch = 75 points. Audio Recording = 25 points. Minus 15 points for grammar and/or unprofessional appearance.
1. Create an elevator pitch presentation using PowerPoint that answers one of the three following common interview questions. Why are you the best candidate for this job? or How has your background and education prepared you for this position? or Tell me about yourself.
The PowerPoint presentation should have a master slide with your name, the position you are applying for and the question you have chosen to answer (choose from one of the three above). Next provide six to eight additional slides that represent your elevator pitch. Apply the principles for developing presentations you have learned in this chapter. Avoid slideument which turns a presentation into a document with too much text per slide. Presentation slides with lots of information, particularly lots of text, just dont work. Refer to Figure 12.10 which provides design tips for slide text. Make sure you don’t have more than seven bullets per slide and no more than seven words per bullet. Each slide should have a topic (your slide title) and pertinent information about the slide topic as it relates to answering the question you have chosen. Provide details and facts rather than general statements related to the main idea of the slide
2. Now record a one-minute pitch addressing the question you chose above. Please use the PowerPoint audio recording option to add the video into the PowerPoint presentation. You can watch a video at the following link to learn how to insert an audio recording in your PowerPoint.
