Victimology has come a long way since its initial acceptance in the criminal justice community; however, there remains work to do in order to eradicate criminal victimization.

The textbook addresses the concept of theory-based research. The authors state that, in order to produce an outstanding research study, researchers must conduct a review of the literature and formulate a research problem that will test a theory. Sir Isaac Newton, the famous physicist and mathematician, stated, “If I have seen farther than others, it is because I have stood on the shoulders of giants.” Newton’s scientific discoveries were based on the prior works of eminent men such as Galileo and Copernicus.

Contemporary Ethics
Christoph Lengauer makes an analogy stating that cells should be treated with the same value as oil. He states, “Why not treat valuable cells like oil? When you find oil on somebody’s property, it doesn’t automatically belong to them, but they do get a portion of the profits” (p. 267). This excerpt from the novel raises some ethical issues to be examined in this reflection.
