Drawing on the policy-related research you have conducted in this class, you will now more fully examine one of the policy areas that interest you most. To do so, you will find nuanced information from peer-reviewed journal articles and other academic sources to give you a broader overview of one specific policy area. In your paper, you will address the following questions:
Which policy issue are you examining? Provide background information on your topic using policy-related concepts and ideas from your sources.
Why is this policy issue meaningful to you?
How might you study this issue if you were a researcher or policy analyst? What kind of study could you design, or what types of data sources might you use to analyze this policy area?
How do social inequalities impact individuals experiencing negative outcomes related to your policy issue?
What can be done to help reduce and challenge social inequalities related to your topic? How will it be accomplished? How could policy efforts play a role in challenging inequalities?
What are your suggestions for social change and reform?
In this course project, you will need to use the following sources to explore your policy topic in greater detail:
A minimum of five peer-reviewed journal articles
Two policy-related websites
Two news articles
Both of your textbooks
Your paper should:
Be approximately four to five pages, double-spaced
Include a title page and a reference page (in addition to the 4-5 page paper)

I Introductory note
The purpose of the exam is to test the student’s ability to use knowledge on the key principles,
steps, and quality criteria in social science research design from the curriculum to draft an own
research design on an assigned topic. Students ought to display mastery of the subject and a
high level of precision in the mention of research design principles, key decisions and
alternatives, key arguments to justify design choices, quality criteria and ethical implications.
At the same time, the exam is primarily about the use of the subject matter to propose a
concrete research design for a pre-assigned topic. The exam requires students to take – and
critically reflect upon – choices and justifications in research design based on the key readings.
It is therefore not enough to identify and reproduce the relevant curriculum material. More
detailed assessment guidelines are attached in the rubric-based overview on page 2.

Collaborative Network

Directions
Watch the video, Case Management: Collaboration
(Links to an external site.)
, listed in the Module Introduction. As discussed throughout this course, building relationships, making connections with other agencies and professionals, and securing outside referrals for clients are all part of a case manager’s role in helping clients improve the overall quality of their lives. In order to accomplish these tasks, collaboration is key.
Assuming the role of a future case manager, develop your own collaborative network. Describe what personal approaches, professional activities, and networking strategies you will use in your collaborative network. In addition, discuss how inter-organizational collaboration benefits both the client and the case manager. Complete your assignment by including a list of 5 local resources (in your community) you believe will be the best resources to start your collaborative network. Include a brief description of each resource/agency, contact information and website, what services are offered and what populations the agency serves.
In Your Assignment You Must
describe in one paragraph each how you would build your own collaborative network in terms of (1) personal approaches, (2) professional activities, and (3) networking strategies (total of 600-750 words)

Provide a critical summary of BOTH readings. What did you learn? What did you find interesting? Did the author(s) introduce any new or specialized terminology?

Instructions
1. Select two different assigned readings (articles).
NOTE: These articles have been chosen and can be located in the attachment box.

Provide a critical summary of BOTH readings. What did you learn? What did you find interesting? Did the author(s) introduce any new or specialized terminology? Is it clear the author is in favor or
against a particular topic? How was it beneficial to family studies? Each critical
summary should be at least a FULL two pages, so four pages total for both
readings. If it is a little longer, that is fine. Be sure to apply
terms/concept(s) from the Modules, and/or the slide presentations.
Use at least two direct quotes with citations (ASA style) from an
academic source (such as text, module slides, or me) per response to
support your points. You may also relate the topics to your personal lives,
current events, and/or class lectures. Write one summary, then the next,
then include your reference page. It is all one paper, but the discussions are
separate. No late work is accepted. You must upload the entire paper as
ONE attachment file under ASSIGNMENTS. The attachment must be
Microsoft Word, Microsoft Works, PDF, or Word Pad (RTF) format. I
cannot open Mac files (Pages), so you will have to convert it. Turnitin
will check for plagiarism, so DO NOT COPY FROM THE INTERNET!
2. Papers must be typed. Use a standard 12 size font in either: Tahoma, Times New
Roman, Courier New, Calibri, or Arial. The paper must be double spaced.
3. Put your heading (name and such) in the header of the paper – you do not
need a cover page. Put page numbers at the footer of the paper. Before each
summary, write the title of the article and the author’s name/authors’
names.
4. Be sure to reference the author you directly quoted, even if it is from the
textbook or lectures. You should have a page at the very end called
“References”. Feel free to quote things I have said as well. You only need one
reference page. Wikipedia and Dictionary.com are not academic sources
– you do not need to use them. The only sources you need for this
assignment are your class notes, slides, and/or textbook. Follow the
American Sociological Association format for “Citations in Text” and the reference
page. Do an Internet search for “ASA style guide”.
5. When writing formally, avoid using contractions (can’t, don’t, won’t). Use the
full versions (can not, do not, will not). Do not use slang such as “cool”. Spell
out smaller numbers (twenty instead of 20). Do not end sentences in
prepositions (with, for, by, along, in, out).
6. Make sure you break your work up into paragraphs. Do not submit one long
paragraph for each response.
