Activity 1 National Health Coverage Plans, Reimbursements, and Quality Baccalaureate education includes learning opportunities of healthcare policy, finance, and regulatory environments (AACN, 2008). Complete the Nursing Quality Indicators (NQI) virtual simulation activity to explore the impact of nursing designs on quality measures, including cost, systems, processes, and outcomes of various points of care. The goal of this activity is to think about basic quality and safety investigations that are used to create and measures outcomes of quality improvement processes. Please Note: You can navigate to the NQI activity by clicking on ‘Sentinel Hospital’, entering the lobby, and clicking the brown icon: ‘Surgical Services. Introduction & Healthcare Coverage and Vulnerable Populations Describe the importance of healthcare coverage (insurance). End with a clearly worded purpose statement for this project. Discuss two ways healthcare coverage is beneficial (helpful) for the vulnerable/ uninsured populations. Diagnosis Related Groups Describe the purpose of Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs). Explain the impact of DRGs on length of stay and payment of services. Discuss how payments for DRGs are now impacted by quality indicators and measures. Select a Major Healthcare Plan (Label heading with the name of the plan Ex: Preferred Provider Option Plan) Select one of the patients from the cases you reviewed in NQI. Summarize two care options provided by the plan that facilitates access for your selected patient. Summarize two care options that limit access to care for your selected patient. Select a Second Major Healthcare Plan (Label heading with the name of the plan Ex: Medicaid) Repeat this activity with the same patient. Summarize two care options provided by the second plan that facilitates access for your selected patient. Summarize two care options that limit access to care for your selected patient. Impact of Nursing Interventions Summarize at least four priority nursing interventions or considerations to promote self-care for your selected patient to provide high quality, safe healthcare considering nursing-sensitive indicators. Provide a rationale for each of your selected nursing decisions. Conclusion Summarize the key points of your project. **You will not discuss the deductibles or costs of the insurance plans as this is not the focus of this this assignment. Following the simulated activity, you will examine the relationship between healthcare coverage (insurance), quality care, and reimbursements (payments) to health care organizations. Select two different major national (U.S.) insurance health plans. You may choose Medicaid, Medicare, HMO, PPO, or private insurance plans. You can choose your own personal insurance plan if you prefer. Review healthcare coverage options offered by both plans that benefit (facilitate) and hinder (limit) access to care. Examples of healthcare coverage (insurance) options that facilitate, or limit access include medication coverage, primary care physician office visits, specialists physician office visits, emergency care, lab or blood work and diagnostics, wellness care, prevention services or surgery (these are just a few examples). You will also explore the role of Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs) and charity care within healthcare facilities (hospitals) and how charity care impacts the vulnerable or uninsured population. Finally, summarize nursing interventions or considerations for your selected patient to provide high quality, safe healthcare considering nursing-sensitive indicators in his/her unique scenario. Capital punishment – American Correction 3rd edition
Option 2: Capital Punishment
Proponents of capital punishment frequently cite deterrence as a benefit of the death penalty
(argument 1). Some studies refute this contention. When confronted with such studies,
proponents sometimes respond that execution “will definitely deter the executed offender.”
They also argue that death is the only thing that some offenders really “deserve.” (2).
Opponents of the death penalty often point out that research shows that executing someone costs
more than incarcerating them for life (3). They also argue that current capital punishment
practices “violate the evolving levels of decency that define a civilized society” (4)
1.) How would you respond to the proponent’s first argument?
2.) How you would respond to the proponent’s second argument?
3.) Do you think there is a point at which the economic consequences of execution outweigh
its value to the public? Explain.
4.) Do you agree with the opponent’s second statement? Why or why not?
5.) Is your stance on the death penalty (whether you oppose or support it) informed by the
Innocence Project? If it is not- browse their website to learn what they do and results they
can had. Then discuss something you learned and whether that changed or strengthened
your viewpoint or why you still feel/think the same?? If your personal views are already
informed by the Innocence Project- discuss how it has educated your opinion?

The Role of the RN/APRN in Policy Evaluation
respond to post:
Skyler Lund
RE: Discussion – Week 9
Week 9 Discussion Post
In the previous discussion post, we needed to complete research on how RN and APRNs are involved with policy-making. This discussion post entails how RN and APRNs are engaged in a policy review. A policy review is looking at a policy in depth to determine whether the approach is still needed or not. Policy review also includes whether the purpose of the policy’s goal is being met and, if necessary, changes need to be made. Lastly, it ensures appropriate education, monitoring, and ongoing policy review (Comprehensively Reviewing Existing Administrative Policies, 2022).
One of the ways that RNs and APRNs can get involved with policy review is by gathering information and knowledge. RNs and APRNs use evidence-based practice every day. RNs and APRNs see patients the most compared to other health professionals. They know what technique works for patients and which ones don’t. They can take the knowledge they learn and apply it to the policy review. The more information gathered, the can help improve better policies (Norful et al., 2017). They can adjust the policy if they need to, depending on if the goals are being met. Another way RNs and APRNs can influence policy review is by joining organizations. When nurses join organizations, they can learn from different organizations to help better patient care. In these organizations, some nurses can get in touch with legislators. This is crucial because it provides factual research into the policy review with legislators (Benton et al., 2020). Nurses should get involved so that myths revolving around healthcare in politics can stay reliable.
One challenge with becoming involved with policy review is working with other organizations. It cannot be easy collaborating with others. Not everyone does things the same way. The strategy to overcome this issue is to keep in mind that the purpose of the policy review is to ensure the goals are being met. It is vital to hear other people’s opinions during the policy review. Some organizations may have a different insight that could progress the policy review. Another challenge is finding the time to donate to the policy review. Almost every nurse comes home from their long shift and doesn’t want to do anything else. A lot of nurses have families to take care of. Also, nurses must have experience and knowledge to bring to the table. Depending on the unit, not many nurses know much because they’re brand new nurses. A strategy to help with this is to allow time during the shift for the nurses to get together and talk about policy reviews or become involved. It would be difficult to implement, but most people have families they need to care for, are tired, and need to regenerate on their days off. RNs and APRNs need to become involved with policy making and policy review for patients to receive the best quality of care.

Probability in Real Life
Discussion: Probability in Real Life
People use probability to make many decisions. We must remember, however, that statistical probability deals only with random events, or things that happen by chance. For example, flipping a fair coin is a random event because each side has an equal likelihood of landing facing up. When faced with making a conscious choice based on probability, decisions often become more complex because they are not random. Consider the example of deciding whether to buy a lottery ticket. You have two choices: buy a ticket or do not buy a ticket. The probability of each decision is not .50 (fifty-fifty), however, as you might expect, because many factors help you make that measured decision; your choice is not random. The cost of the ticket, the amount of the jackpot, your feelings about gambling, and even your mood at the moment weigh into your decision. In contrast, the probability of you winning the jackpot if you do decide to buy a ticket is a random event and can be determined by probability. For example, if the back of the ticket states that you have a 1 in 17,000,000 million chance of winning the jackpot, that means that probability of winning the jackpot is .00000005 (calculated by taking 1/17,000,000).
For this week’s Discussion, you will practice your understanding of probability in everyday decision-making by finding an example on the Internet, and you will apply three key features of statistical probability to the example.
To prepare: Search the Internet and review several examples of probability demonstrations.
You may use any simple example of probability that you find (e.g., picking M&Ms or cookies from a jar, spinning a spinner with different colored pieces, the weather). Consider searching the Internet with the phrases “how to teach probability,” or “probability examples,” or “probability demonstrations.” The example you choose can be as elementary as you want as long as it allows you to answer the discussion prompts completely.

The Humanistic Approach
DISCUSSION 1: (answer in 100 words)
Carl Rogers assumed the position that people are innately good. Given your experience in world events, do you agree with Rogers’s position? Give three examples of why or why not. Justifying your responses with research directly from Rogers.
RESPONSE 1: (answer in 100 words)
In my opinion, I do believe that people are good. I think people are born with a conscious to do good and learn lousy behavior from things surrounding them. For example, my grandpa is someone who I genuinely believe does not have an insufficient bone in his body. He constantly does good for others, donates, and supports his community in multiple ways. He constantly shows gratitude and fulfillment, which is something Rogers spoke a lot about. One article state, “while Freud may have been puritanical in comparison with Rogers, psychoanalytic theory has always understood neurosis as arising from insufficient gratification of feelings or impulses” *Wallach, 1990, pg. 3). Another example concerning the psychoanalytic theory is that humans are born with everchanging personality traits that are negatively affected by one’s environment. Such as being a part of a mean friend group in high school and evolving into an unkind person. The last example would be that the word is good since there are many opportunities and examples of people adopting children, fostering children, a=donating to charity, and completing good deeds every day. It would be silly to think of the world as such a dark place when miracles and significant events happen daily.

RESPONSE 2: (answer in 100 words)
To assume someone is innately good defies nature. People have genetics that guide how they will develop (nature) and genes that are acted upon by others. Your family and environment can affect your personality. It is possible to grow up in squalor and still become a wealthy and influential person or someone who is born in wealth can treat others very poorly. “The work of Carl Rogers (1969) crosses the boundaries between psychology and education and can be applied to facilitating online courses in the human services. Rogers (1969) identified three “core conditions” that support facilitative practice in both counseling and education: empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard. He theorized that these three conditions were necessary for the creation of relationships that support and facilitate both therapeutic conversations and educational interactions” (Swan, K. et al, 2020, p. 5). This falls along the lines of a teacher and student which is similar to therapist and client. Relationships can provide a variety of opportunities to provide to students and develop better relationships.

DISCUSSION 2: (answer in 100 words)
Analyze your ability to self-disclose. Examine: a) your dating relationships/marriage, and b) peer relationships.
RESPONSE 3: (answer in 100 words)
Self-disclosure is “The act of revealing intimate information about oneself to another person” (Burger, 2018, pg. 443). I feel like I am very good at self-disclosure because I tend to wear my heart on my sleeve. But that does not mean that I will open up to anyone, as I feel like I struggle with opening up to people and letting them gain my trust. To get better at this, I need to put myself in situations where I can be more vulnerable. In past dating relationships, I have opened up to people a lot and ended up getting hurt, which is why it tends to be more challenging for me now. In peer relationships, as in my befriends, I share almost everything. I love hearing advice from my friends and gaining support from them. Similarly, with my family, I share a lot with my mom, as she is my best friend.
Burger, J. (2018). Personality. Cengage. https://bibliu.com/app/#/view/books/9781337671705/pdf2htmlex/index.html#page_420
RESPONSE 4: (answer in 100 words)
I am not particularly good at self-disclosure, as defined by the American Psychological Association as “the action of exposing sensitive or confidential information concerning oneself to another person” (APA, 2020). I am a pretty closed-off person, or, as I addressed in my paper last week, I am unquestionably introverted. Normally, I don’t reveal anything regarding myself. For some reason, I experience a more difficult time dating than in any other setting. I generally like to keep to myself, and if I feel the urge to be among others or chat to someone (intimately or informally), I will, but not typically. When it relates to social connections, I may be self-disclosive, however when it pertains to disclosing personal or confidential information regarding myself, well, I just don’t do it. If questioned, how much I disclose depends on who is inquiring, but I never go too personal (if I can avoid it) unless I have a unique relationship with somebody, whether dating or peer-wise.

Using and Interpreting educational data
Task 1: Analysis and interpretation of a simulated school data set (including NAPLAN data) and written report on findings.
In this assignment you are required to write a report on a fictional school using a simulated data set. You will interpret, analyse and compare the data set with normative NAPLAN data. From this analysis you will determine a specific issue which is identifiable in the data (e.g., poor attendance of students, boys not making benchmarks in reading etc.). You will then review current empirical research on the factors relating to the chosen issue. Finally you will outline a proposal (a list of recommendations) which are aimed at resolving the chosen issue and improving the outcomes of students.
In this task you will be graded on your ability to
1) identify trends in a simulated educational data set, analyse patterns in data using statistical notation and terminology.
2) compare the simulated NAPLAN data set with normative data
3) make inferences from the data to guide future curriculum and pedagogy decisions
4) present all of the above in a written report
