Chapter One (pages 13-14, under the section “How Should we Perceive and Respond?”) gives us four questions to ask about any piece of art:
What is it? (A formal response, identify its title, maker, date made, and where in the world it is from)
How is it put together? (A technical response, how was it made, what techniques, what media, etc)
How does it appeal to the senses? (An experiential approach, how do you experience this piece, what ways could you use your senses to know this piece if you saw it in person)
What does it mean? (A contextual and personal response, why do you think the artist created the work, what does it make you feel?)
Use these questions to explore your chosen prompt.
You should write at least four hundred (400) words about your prompt. The earlier in the week you complete your original response, the better.
Respond to at least one other student (response should be at least 150 words). Please cover the contrast behind what the original post shares and what you experienced with their prompt. Highlight connections and use the terminology from the appropriate chapter to discuss the subject.
Requirements:
For full participation credit, a minimum of two posts must occur on two different days during the week.
First post should occur on or before Wednesday.
All posts should include word count.
Posts discussing written texts should include quotes with APA in-text citation and reference.

Guidelines
Identify a clinical question related to your area of clinical practice and write the clinical foreground question in PICOT format utilizing the worksheet tool provided as a guide.
Describe why this is a clinical problem or an opportunity for improving health outcomes in your area of clinical practice. Perform a literature search and select five research articles on your topic utilizing the databases highlighted in Chapter 3 of the textbook (Melnyk and Finout-Overholt, 2015).
Identify the article that best supports nursing interventions for your topic. Explain why this article best supports your topic as you compare the article to the other four found in the literature search.
Length: 500 words; answer must thoroughly address questions in a clear, concise manner

Background:
The Purpose of a Literary Analysis
Important: A literary analysis is not merely a summary of a literary work. Instead, it is an argument about the work that expresses a writer’s personal perspective, interpretation, judgment, or critical evaluation of the work. This is accomplished by examining the literary devices, word choices, or writing structures the author uses within the work. The purpose of a literary analysis is to demonstrate why the author used specific ideas, word choices, or writing structures to convey his or her message.
Motif and Theme
In a literary work, a motif can be seen as an image, sound, action, or other figure that has a symbolic significance, and contributes toward the development of a theme (Links to an external site.). Motif and theme are linked in a literary work, but there is a difference between them. In a literary piece, a motif is a recurrent image, idea, or symbol (Links to an external site.) that develops or explains a theme, while a theme is a central idea or message. A motif can be expressed in a word (e.g. struggle) whereas a theme is expressed in a phrase or sentence (e.g. the struggle to be authentic will always be thwarted by societal expectations).
Motif and Symbol
Sometimes, examples of motif are mistakenly identified as examples of symbols. Symbols are images, ideas, sounds, or words that represent something else, and help to understand an idea or a thing. Motifs, on the other hand, are images, ideas, sounds, or words that help to explain the central idea of a literary work – the theme. Moreover, a symbol may appear once or twice in a literary work, whereas a motif is a recurring element.

Goal:
The purpose of this essay assignment is to demonstrate the ability to:
Make keen, detail-oriented observations in a work that dig beneath the surface of the text and leads to analysis.
Explore your observations of a text and explain and show the significance of your observations.
Make connections to larger ideas beyond the story while maintaining focus on the specifics.
Organize your ideas logically into paragraphs, and organize those paragraphs into a flow your readers can follow.
Integrate outside sources and synthesize them into your work. This also requires evaluating sources for credibility.
Make a claim about a theme in the novel (which in this case would be your thesis).

Read the Wall Street Journal, The Economist, or any other major newspaper or weekly publication and select a single article or articles that report on interesting economic news that can be analyzed by the concepts or models taught in Microeconomics.

Write a four-page essay analyzing the topic or critique the article from economic perspectives. The questions that you may address in this essay should include, but are not limited, to the following:
1 What is the main economic issue?
2 How is the economic issue related to the concepts or models that you have learned from this course?
3 What sorts of arguments/opinions have been discussed?
4 Do you agree or disagree with the analyses/opinions? Why?

The following is a suggested list of topics. This list is not exhaustive.
INDUSTRY STUDY. For a specific industry, choose a current issue such as deregulation, foreign competition, and the impact of new technologies, mergers/takeovers, changing methods of competition, labor problems, or financial changes.

COMPANY STUDY. Study the recent growth or decline of a particular company or its current position. This topic might include such points as the market structure within which the company grew and now operates, the elasticity of demand for its products, the degree of unionization, the cost structure (degree of fixed cost, economies of scale), the role of advertising, the degree of international competition, etc.

INTERNATIONAL ISSUES. Possible topics are: current economic problems of a particular country, OPEC, the European Union, the U. S. trade deficit, protectionism, U. S. trade relations with Japan or other countries, economic development of a particular country, the World Trade Organization, etc.

GOVERNMENT REGULATION. Analyze some particular government regulation or antitrust policy relative to a specific industry or company or analyze a current regulatory issue (environmental protection, OSHA, the FDA, etc.).
