For this assignment, you will demonstrate both your creativity and your knowledge of crime myths and the media. This assignment has two parts that you will submit together. Be sure to review the rubric before
you begin writing.
Part I
You will compose a one-page news story that you will create yourself.
Pretend that you are a writer for your local news station, and compose a one-page article that analyzes
the war on drugs, and relate it to crime myths. You get to decide how you depict the information, where
your story takes place (location), and what happens in your story.
Be creative and inventive, and make it your own! Remember, this is original. While you may use the Internet to get an idea of topics (e.g., marijuana arrests, meth lab busts, illegal transportation of drugs), you may
NOT use a story you find online.
Do not submit a general drug story. Ensure that you provide a story, and then relate the story to its link to crime myths.
Part II
You will compose a one-page explanation about how the media influences perceptions on crime.
You can relate your explanation to your fictional news story. How do you think your story would influence
readers? Your explanation can include the specific words, images, or descriptions you used to
sensationalize events and make them news.
Your submission must follow APA-style guidelines and formatting. Be sure to use at least two sources to
support your paper. A title page is not required for this assignment.

To Prepare
Review this module’s Resources focused on business plans and systems thinking in healthcare organizations.
Identify one or more individuals within your organization to act as “finance counselor” with whom you can consult on financial and budget items, such as costing, estimating, and budget request processes.
With these thoughts in mind:

Post a statement describing at least one gap and/or opportunity for enhanced services or approaches within your healthcare organization. For each gap or opportunity, identify one possible solution, applying systems thinking to your approach. Be sure to address financial (including budgetary) impacts of your solutions, consulting as needed with your finance counselor.

You might be asking yourself, why would I need to spend an entire Workshop choosing research articles? Well, as a researcher, you want to be able to choose the best articles for your literature review, including making sure the articles you choose are current, utilize the strongest research designs, and are most relevant to your future practice or program evaluation. The NASW Code of Ethics also suggests that importance of social workers utilizing EBP in practice and policy.
As it relates to social work education and training, the NASW Ethical Standard 3.02 states:
“Social workers who function as educators, field instructors for students, or trainers should provide instruction only within their areas of knowledge and competence and should provide instruction based on the most current information and knowledge available in the profession.”
As it relates to social workers competency, the NASW Ethical Standard 1.04 states:
“Social workers should provide services in substantive areas or use intervention techniques or approaches that are new to them only after engaging in appropriate study, training, consultation, and supervision from people who are competent in those interventions or techniques.”
As was mentioned multiple times already, after completing this SWK661 research course you will need to take the SWK662 research course. For this second research course, you will need to develop a proposal that goes through all the program or practice evaluation steps in research. Remember, you get to choose in the next research course whether you want to complete a program or practice evaluation for your final paper, but either way learning about and utilizing EBP now will help you tremendously when you begin your research proposal next term.
Read the Brianna case study below and then follow the five EBP steps below to complete this assignment.
Brianna Case Study
Brianna, a 22-year-old Asian woman, is seeking counseling for anxiety and depression that she attributes to her problems during her junior year of college. In response to questions about her use of substances, Brianna describes herself as a “social drinker.” Her typical pattern is to consume 3-6 drinks each day, and she drinks 5 times per week. She began drinking regularly (1-2 times per week) and heavily (to intoxication) at the age of 12, usually in the company of an older cousin or school friends. She continued this pattern through high school but cut back during her first two years of college due to lack of money to buy alcohol and more difficult access. During her junior year, Brianna was raped at a party and became pregnant with the perpetrator’s child. She resumed drinking heavily after this incident.
Evidence-Based Process:
Step 1 (Develop a Question): Develop at least 1 question you would like to answer from the Brianna case study. Specifically, ask a question about a potential problem you identified and want to help Brianna alleviate;
Step 2 (Find the Evidence): Find at least two published studies that can help you answer this question (for my review, cut and paste or write out the abstracts of the 2 articles into your essay question). Specifically, find two articles that use an intervention that you believe would help Brianna with her problem;
Step 3 (Analyze the Evidence): Summarize each article and identify which study you believe has a stronger research design and why? Which study do you believe has an intervention that is likely to help Brianna with her problem?;
Step 4 (Combine Evidence w/ your Understanding of Client & Situation): Which pieces of evidence from the 2 articles fits better with Brianna’s case? Which pieces of evidence do not fit well with Brianna’s case? Of the 2 articles, which one has an intervention that you plan to apply to Brianna’s case? Why did you pick this particular one?; and
Step 5 (Application to Practice/Policy): For this step you can “make up” the information. Describe how you would implement this intervention with Brianna?
Upon successful completion of this assignment, you will be able to:
Analyze quantitative and qualitative research methods and research findings (PLO 4; ILO 6)
Synthesize information from a variety of sources to purposefully plan and develop a research practice focus

The final assignment maps the assimilation of the following course objective:
CO5: Apply theories and principles of American foreign policy in the analysis of current events.
Please review your discussions, notes, and plans from the Week Seven simulation forum. The first two questions should include facts that you presented in the Week Seven discussion. The only extra requirement is that you have to substantiate your work (with in-text citations and a Reference list.) The last question calls for details from the Rosati article that focuses on stress and personality in the foreign policy decision-making process. Link it with the experience you had as a policy-maker in the Week Seven simulation. It can be stressful to make foreign policies that could affect not only the US but also the entire world, right? Finish your last answer with examples of how a personality affects policymaking. Rosati mentions a few presidents.
The page limit for the assignment is two double-spaced pages (+ Reference List). Present it as a Word document, uploaded to the Assignment folder no later than Sunday, Week Eight, at 11:55 pm ET. Remember to rely on the work you did in Week Seven simulation and assigned literature for Weeks Seven (mainly the articles in the instructions) and Eight (Rosati’s article). Cite the readings with in-text citations in the body of your paper, and write a Reference List at the end.

1. Given your plan set out in the Week Seven simulation (Iran’s nuclear ambitions was the topic), what tactics are most appropriate for achieving these various goals? Why?
