Each term paper MUST include a cover page, outline and a bibliography or works cited page. Each student should select a health topic that is of interest to him/her. Evaluation of the
paper (100%) will be based on a combination of the following:

• thoroughness
and depth of research (30%). You should be drawing on and citing a wide
range of the very best, most reliable and up-to-date sources. Under-researched
papers are painfully obvious to readers. Be sure to begin your research early,
and to pursue sources aggressively.

• quality of
analysis. (40%). Make sure your paper goes beyond description and engages
in thoughtful, careful, and critical analysis. Analysis is absolutely essential
— papers which fail to move beyond description are simply unacceptable and
will receive an F.

• quality of
writing and presentation. (30%). Write with clarity (avoid vague, elusive,
or jargon-laden language); make sure
that each paragraph starts with a thesis sentence, backed up by evidence, and that the entire
paper is organized logically, so that ideas and arguments flow from one to the next; and take
care to proofread for misspellings, grammatical
errors, awkward sentences, and so on. The evaluation of the executive summary
will be included in this portion of the grade. An excellent habit to get into
is writing a first full draft of the paper well in advance of the deadline, so
that you can reread it a few days later and find areas for improvement. Few
policy papers and reports in the post-collegiate world are ever submitted
without extensive editing and rewriting!

Citing your sources
is not the same thing as listing them in the bibliography. You can use two
methods for citing your sources. Either use the author-date system (example:
Giddens, 1997, p.97) or the footnote system where you indicate the entire

Research project for statistics

Students will read a scholarly journal article and a non-scholarly article about a specific topic that will be provided in the course. Items to consider when reading the articles include noting the issue, methodology, and results.
Students will choose two groups of people (15 each, 30 total) and collect data by requesting 30 people to complete a questionnaire provided in the course. Fifteen of the questionnaires must be completed by men and 15 of the questionnaires must be completed by women.
Students must enter the data into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet that is provided in the course, and then analyze the data. Students will read the data set instructions that are located in the course for additional details about what statistical procedures to conduct. Tables and graphs must be copied and integrated into a Word doc in final submission. Excel file must also be submitted.
Students will develop an APA formatted, written report that contains the following sections:
Introduction: Briefly summarize the concept (approximately 300 words)
Refer to the scholarly peer-reviewed article and the non-scholarly article to discuss the concept
Methodology: Briefly describe the following with regard to data collection (make a separate heading for each subheading below):
Participants
Discuss any important demographic information such as age of participants etc.
Materials
Describe the questionnaire—number of items and the response set (i.e. the Likert scale options)
Procedure
Describe how the data was collected –how did you find participants and ask them to participate
Results: Briefly summarize the statistical findings from the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and address the questions in the data set instructions about the data. This section will include a frequency polygon and content from the textbook as students answer questions about the results. Tables and graphs from Excel Spreadsheet must be integrated into the results section of this paper. Students will also assume normality and apply an independent t-test to analyze if the difference between two groups is statistically significant. Refer to the data set instructions for guidelines on what to include in the results section.
Discussion: Briefly summarize the interpretation of the findings (i.e. what do the findings mean in relation to the concept) (approximately 300 words)
APA Format: Include APA references for at least 3 sources (two provided resources and one additional resource) used in this report (i.e. journal article, non-scholarly or peer-reviewed article, or textbook). In-text citations need to be appropriately used and correct.

Section I: Background
Acme General Contractors is the general contractor for a new 20-story commercial building in downtown Centerville, USA. The building will use a rigid-frame structure and reinforced concrete construction. A major subcontractor on the project who will be performing the roofing and interior insulation and drywall installation has hired you as the safety officer.
Section II: Assignment
Analyze the hazards associated with the roofing and the interior work. You should identify at least three hazards for each activity.
Perform a risk assessment on three of the hazards that you identified for each activity (six total) using the 4 X 5 matrix shown in Figure 34-1 on page 492 of the textbook or in the quantitative risk assessment form, which can be accessed by clicking here .
Prioritize the need for controls for the hazards that you selected based on the results of the risk assessment.
Using the hierarchy of engineering controls listed in Figure 3-3 on page 29 of the textbook, recommend a control method for each hazard that you believe would be the most effective in reducing risk to an acceptable level. Explain why you made the choice, and support your decisions with at least one reference other than the textbook.
Use the 4 X 5 matrix or the quantitative risk assessment form to show the reduction in risk for each hazard after the control method has been applied.
For any fall protection that you recommend, be specific about the type of fall protection needed.
Discuss how Prevention through Design (PtD) could be used to reduce the risks associated with these operations.

Scenario 1: Proposed Catwalk (Fall Hazards)
There is an elevated area within the plant that requires two maintenance personnel to access it at least once every 2 weeks to perform preventive maintenance by lubricating gears and pulleys. They are currently using a 20-foot extension ladder to reach the locations that require maintenance. This requires that the ladder be moved six times per event, along with the employee climbing up and down the ladder. The maintenance supervisor for the plant has provided a drawing of a catwalk that he would like to install and has asked you to review them for compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and to identify any potential problems with the design.
Scenario 2: Hunter Molding Machine (Machine Guarding)
While operating a Hunter molding machine, it is necessary for a single operator to reach inside the machine to adjust the pattern or blow it off to ensure that it is free of particles or other debris that will create deformed parts. This function is conducted once every 75 minutes, 8.5 hours per day. The molding pattern is placed on the holder by the machine, which then automatically rotates the pattern 180 degrees before the molding sand is compressed on the pattern, and then this process is repeated to ensure a two-sided mold is created. When the molds are compressed and then separated, the operator must reach inside the machine to clean the pattern by blowing compressed air onto the mold. The foundry supervisor is concerned that there is a potential for the operator to be caught in the rotating pattern holder, causing an amputation. He has asked for your help to provide a control measure to prevent any possible injuries to the operators. Note: A physical barrier between the operator and the pattern holder is not possible or feasible due to production activities. Please see the photographs below as a reference.
Scenario 3: Quality Control Testing Facility (Airborne Chemicals)
The quality control manager has implemented a new testing procedure to ensure high quality products are being produced by the company. As a part of the testing operation, the quality control technician applies a chemical mixture with a paintbrush onto specific points of the parts, which have previously been identified as weak points by customer complaints. This operation takes place over an open sink, similar to a parts washing tank. The quality control manager has requested your assessment based on the following data, along with any recommendations for any controls that need to be implemented. This operation takes place throughout the day and involves three employees (quality technicians) per 8-hour shift. An outside consultant has sampled the employee exposure over an 8-hour period with the results shown below.
Scenario 4: Mobile Crane Operations (Materials Handling)
While observing a lift of materials onto a flatbed trailer through the use of a mobile hydraulic crane, which had the tires fully inflated and on level and firm ground, the materials manager stopped the operation because it did not look correct to her.
