write a well thought out essay with extremely poor grammar, the highest grade you could get would be a
Layout: Each Paper should be between 1000 and 1200 words in length, approximately 2-3 double
spaced pages. Please use a 12-point Times New Roman Font with one inch margins. Do NOT justify the
paper. Place a simple, four line heading at the top of the pages, consisting of your name, my name, the
course and section number, and the date.
After the heading, you want to identify the particular book that you used for your Book Analysis. This is
important because it will also serve as your one item bibliography in this case. Use Chicago Manual of
Style Endnote citation:
EXAMPLE: Wolfgang Schivelbusch, Tastes of Paradise (Vintage Books, 1993)
This line should serve as your title, centered over your first paragraph. For more details on Chicago
Manual of Style, see the following link:

Content: This is not a simple book report, and it is not a critique either. It is your job to provide a
thorough analysis of your book. Focus on how the historian uses evidence to prove his or her particular
thesis. An author’s thesis is a concise declaration of his or her argument. Every scholarly work has an
argument. It is your first responsibility to identify and explain that argument. Your introduction should
contain a description of the author’s thesis, and your conclusion should express your informed opinion
of the strengths and weaknesses of that thesis. In order to arrive at an informed opinion, you will need to
closely examine the author’s use of historical evidence. This evidence, whether in the form of primary
source material or archaeological remnants, must be considered carefully before your conclusion.
Grammar: Although I do not place a heavy emphasis on grammar, it will be necessary to assess your
ability to write a college level essay. I will dedicate one letter grade to an evaluation of grammar. If you
write a well thought out essay with extremely poor grammar, the highest grade you could get would be a
B. This may seem harsh, but realize that this is the maximum amount I will penalize you for grammar
alone.
Quotations: It is important for you to cite and quote your author frequently throughout the course of the
paper. I expect to see at least one quotation or paraphrase used in each paragraph. Whenever your author
is expressing a unique or original thought that you feel is relevant to your analysis, provide a direct
quotation. Paraphrase when describing detailed information from the original work. In either case, it will
be necessary to use footnotes throughout the paper.1 Because you cited the author at the beginning of
your paper, you can follow a simple format for your footnotes. Simply use the author’s last name and
page number.

Define the condition (Are there different criteria? Different definitions?)
Students will be required to create a 1-2 page infographic on one assigned health condition or health phenomenon. If you have never made an infographic before, Pikochart or Canva are good places to start.
Presentations are not intended to be entirely comprehensive, but they are expected to review epidemiologic concepts explored during lecture such as disease frequency, descriptive epidemiology, measures of association, and screening. If you want to include information on the clinical background or symptoms of your topic (if applicable), you can, but it should not be the focus of your presentation (since a medical perspective is not an epi perspective).
The follow should be included in your infographic:
Define the condition (Are there different criteria? Different definitions?)
Prevalence (What is the distribution in the population? Think about person, place, and time factors and descriptive epidemiology)
Exposures & Risk factors (quantified with research and cited) (This is analytic epidemiology)
Example: Not “gender is a risk factor” , Instead: Women are at a (X) greater risk than men (must include comparison group)
Screening (How is disease identified?)
Policy & Prevention Strategies (What is being done to lessen the burden of disease?)
What are the effects of gun violence.

What does the research state about the benefits of starting a Community Policing Unit?
For this assignment, you will conduct research on how to start a community policing unit. Assume you are in a department of 150 officers. You have been assigned the task of researching why the department should start a Community Policing prorgam and how to start a community policing unit to present your information to the Chief of Police by Powerpoint. If the Chief decides to start a Community Policing Unit, you have been assured that you will get a promotion and be in charge of the unit.
PowerPoint Guidelines: You should have 13 to 21 slides. Here is a suggestion to get you started:
Title-1 slide- (5 points)The title of your research. Include your name, teacher’s name, course period and name.
Introduction- 2-3 slides- (20 points) Provide the background information on Community Policing, context, study question, relevant knowledge on issue.
Hypothesis/Problem Statement- 1 slide- (15 points) Give a clear problem statement. Why do you need a Community Policing Unit?
Results/Discussion- 5 slides- (20 points) Describe descriptive results. Present any information that is relevant to your subject. It can include text and/or table graphs. There should be statistics included in this section. What does the research state about the benefits of starting a Community Policing Unit? How will it affect your crime rate? What are the benefits to your community?
Conclusions-3-5 slides- (15 points) Summarize the hypothesis or problem statement and results and state whether the research supports your initial thoughts on the matter. Discuss why the results are conclusive and interesting. Include all key points, implications, and create only one slide for each message.
References-1 slide- (10 points) Site your references in APA format. You must have a minimum of 3 references. One can be the text book. NC Live is a good option for your research. You may not use Wikepedia and Legal/Lawyer websites.
Design- (10 points)- Slides display elements of effective design. Fonts, colors, backgrounds, etc. are effective, consistent and appropriate to the topic and audience.
