Part 1: Invent a criminal law. The purpose of this law is to make something illegal that is not currently illegal. Give a brief explanation of why it should be illegal. Do a little research into how many people might be affected by making this new law. Give some suggestions on how this new law should be enforced and any penalties or punishments it should carry.
Use one of the major theories of criminology to explain why this thing should now be illegal.
Discuss this law in terms of power: How does making this new thing illegal affect power? Does it take power away from people? Does it give power or protections to people? How might this law affect our current ‘technology of power’?
Speculate why this thing is not currently illegal? What are the social reasons for it not currently being illegal and what are the social reasons for making it illegal?

Part 3: Through sixteen weeks of lectures and two books, we end on an assignment that asks us to change the laws and provide compelling arguments for doing so. Obviously, we do not have the power to make these changes.
We live in a democratic country that is ‘for the people and by the people,’ yet regular folk are often excluded from making changes to society. Why might that be the case? What are the implications for our democracy?
If you really wanted to change a law, what would that take? How difficult would it be? What kinds of barriers are there?
Are we in charge of the criminal justice system, or is it in charge of us?
Discuss one social movement that has tried or is trying to change laws. What are their tactics? Are they successful?

This week, you will continue working on the Program Evaluation: Grant Request for Proposal (RFP) to seek funding for the entire program evaluation process. This includes the opportunity to add attachments to the appendix of the Program Evaluation Grant: Request for Proposal, providing additional justification. As you continue your work on the RFP, you will consider information you have explored in this course, follow the guidelines, and demonstrate how your program evaluation process can serve as a role model for other educational entities.
