This discussion is based on a TED Talk by Dan Pink, as well as drawing on readings from the Motivation module. Pink, a former speechwriter, career analyst, and author of the book Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us, reveals some remarkable facts about motivation that have been confirmed in many social science experiments, but aren’t widely recognized. Pink concludes:
There is a mismatch between what science knows and what business does. Here is what science knows. One: Those 20th century rewards, those motivators we think are a natural part of business, do work, but only in a surprisingly narrow band of circumstances. Two: Those if-then rewards often destroy creativity. Three: The secret to high performance isn’t rewards and punishments, but that unseen intrinsic drive–the drive to do things for their own sake. The drive to do things cause they matter.
How do you think managers can use this knowledge to motivate their employees? How will you use this knowledge in your own pursuits?

YOUR ASSIGNMENT
The collaborative project (with 3 or 4 team members; you will form your teams) offers you a variety of real-world writing scenarios (e.g., a proposal to build a restaurant; identify a problem and propose a solution for a small, local, privately owned business, etc.). You will select your topic from the list provided in Blackboard.
The project requires primary (a questionnaire) and secondary (library, Web) research, and appropriate documentation (use APA documentation style – review a source such as Purdue Online Writing Lab: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/purdue_owl.html). Your team must use (and cite) at least five secondary sources, cited using APA style. The body of the report, not counting the prefatory and supplemental material, must be a minimum of 3 pages per team member. The written content in the report body, not counting visuals and headings, must have a minimum of 2000 words (2700 words for a 4-person team).
Each team member must show their work individually on the team’s wiki page to receive credit for the assignment. Failure to use the team wiki page will result in a zero.

There will be four case studies due throughout the semester. The chapters the case studies can be found in are on the
