Rewrite political essay

The main reason this is not a pass is because 50% of the essay is essentially missing. You were asked to compare and contrast an insider and an outsider to the First Debate and you have not done so.

While you somewhat note the existence of the First Great Debate (within IR’s canon) you do not define or expand upon what this is in a clear manner or who the debate was between. In turn, by not doing so, I feel your essay is littered with various inaccuracies and aspects that are just not clear (see also below).

You do not include 3 clear sections or fully interrogate the linguistic or political context. There is way too much repetition on display and these ‘wasted’ words need to be allocated towards other aspects of the question.

Further to this, you need to define your terms and provide a deeper exposition. In this way, you need to unpack the key points you make and the terminology/vocabularies utilised. For example, you mention the balance of power but do not concretely explain what this is or why it might be relevant. To add to this, there are many instances whereby you introduce a point/argument and then you do not develop this or link it to the course material.

Moreover, your approach to referencing is highly problematic. Large portions of your essay require supporting evidence in the form of references, and even when you do attempt to do this, it is incorrect or incomplete as you mostly do not include pages numbers.

On top of this, there are a number of areas in the essay which lack clarity and I am not too sure what argument you are trying to make. At the same time, you put forward many inaccuracies and the discussion does not always remain relevant to the question at hand (see in text comments).

If all this could be improved on the paper that would be fab thank you

Before you begin this discussion activity, be sure you have read Chapter 9,
The Variety of Critical Theory, and have a thorough understanding of the
materials.
During the Enlightenment period of the 18th and 19th centuries, the social world contained a “natural” order that could be discovered by the scientific method, thus a “modern” form of thought or philosophy emerged. In the decades of the 70s and 80s a new group, called “post-modernists” rebuked the modernists thought; the post modernists also concluded that there are no universally accepted “grand narratives” prescribing a cure for crime. Rather, they advanced the proposition that crimes were what official institutions defined them as –thus, a “new” way to understand crime causation arose.

Feminist scholars provided new perspectives in “gendering criminology” in important ways. For decades, women offenders and victims were ignored. Many of the feminist approaches have succeeded in unveiling the unique experiences specific to female criminality and victimization. Consequently, the diverse feminist perspectives also succeeded in bringing much needed attention to women as victims and survivors of sexual and physical violence.

When you have completed your readings of Chapter 10 and viewed the video on Two Views on FeminismLinks to an external site. [Video File, 26:49 mins], you should be ready to participate in this second module activity. Be sure to include at least one academic reference/resource in your initial posting and observe APA citation format.

Why have governments in Australia been able to adopt a more effective policy response to the problem of gun violence than governments in the US?

Length: 1400 words
Instructions: Please write a 1400 word essay that addresses the topic below
Question
1) Why have governments in Australia been able to adopt a more effective policy response to the problem of gun violence than governments in the US?
Please make sure to read and cite at least four sources listed in the week 1 essential reading and/or further reading.

Please see the next page for grading criteria and referencing information.
Marking Criteria

• Relevance – the essay addresses the question, staying on topic throughout with relevant material directed at what the question is asking.
• Awareness – the essay shows an understanding of a reasonable range of the key theories, perspectives, and issues relevant to the topic.
• Reasoning/Evidence – the essay uses appropriate reasoning and/or evidence to support the argument.
• Analysis – the essay examines the topic systematically and in depth, showing the capacity to engage in critical thinking.
• Structure – the essay is well structured throughout with clear paragraphs in a logical order, along with a clear introduction and conclusion. The word length is appropriate.
• Written expression – the essay is clearly written throughout with few errors in spelling, grammar or syntax.
• Research – the essay draws on a good range of appropriate material and cites the required number of academic sources.
• Referencing – the essay is appropriately referenced throughout and the author acknowledges where they have drawn on the work of other scholars through the appropriate use of citations and, where needed, quotations. (See below for further information on referencing).
Referencing
It is crucial that you properly reference the essay. The basic idea behind referencing is that you should acknowledge where you have drawn on the words and/or the ideas of other scholars. Whilst most of you are probably familiar with a bibliography/reference list – a list of the sources you have consulted in your research for an essay – it is important to remember that academic referencing at university level goes beyond this. In addition to providing a bibliography/reference list, you are required to use footnotes or in-text references and where, appropriate, quotation marks, to indicate during your essay where you have drawn on the work of others. You must also make sure that the references you provide are accurate (for example, that the source you are referencing makes the point that you claim it does), and that the sources you use are reputable. If you do not reference properly, you are open to allegations of plagiarism and/or academic misconduct, which, if proven, can result in very severe penalties. To avoid this, please make sure that you complete the library’s academic referencing module, consult the academic referencing tool, and speak to the subject coordinator or your tutor if you have any questions.
Use the Harvard system for your referencing.

Choose only three (3), from the eight (8) Problems with the Use of Punishment that are listed in this section. In your own words, briefly outline the problems listed concerning the use of punishment. In your reflection, discuss your personal thoughts about punishment –relate your reflection to real-life experiences (what factors play a role in how we view punishment; does culture play a role?).

1 – Punishing one behavior may simply result in a generalized suppression of other behaviors. A child who has been punished for playing aggressively will not necessarily begin playing more cooperatively; she might instead simply stop playing with other children, which is not at all what was intended.

2 – Punishment might simply teach the individual to avoid the person who delivered the punishment. A child who is severely punished by her father might begin minimizing the time she spends with her father. This would obviously be less than ideal, especially if the father has much to offer the child.

3 – Because punishment often has an immediate effect in stopping an unwanted behavior, the use of punishment is often strongly reinforced. If hitting one’s children has the immediate effect of getting them to stop making noise (an immediate negative reinforcer), then the behavior of hitting them has been strongly reinforced. The use of punishment can therefore be quite seductive, enticing the parent to use it more and more frequently, possibly to the point of becoming abusive.

Chapters 23-25 detail the processes by which identity change takes place for two different kinds of stigmatized groups. As you read though these chapters, consider the ways in which your own identity has changed and developed throughout your life; at one point you were learning to “become” a kindergartener, while later you learned to become an athlete, musician, writer, gamer, dancer, etc.

After reading Chapters 23-25, describe the process by which your identity changed at some point in your life (this does not have to be an example of deviance). Use the models provided in Adler & Adler to discuss the various stages of your identity formation as you changed from “being” one identity to another. As you complete this exercise and read and respond to your classmates’ examples, try to identify as many of the “seven stages of [an identity] career” as you can. Also, see if you observe any ways in which your classmates are “using techniques of neutralization” as they discuss their various identity shifts.

In earlier modules, you have learned about the social construction of deviance and deviant behavior, labeling theory, and other theories for understanding deviance; you have also begun to examine some real-life examples of deviant behavior, and through your field activity (Project 1), you practiced engaging in a deviant act. In this module, we will concentrate on the formation of deviant identities, that is, how folks come to think of themselves in terms of a “deviant” label.

Adler & Adler have proposed seven stages of a “deviant career” (pp. 254-255) to describe this process.

A person is “caught publicly” engaging in a deviant act or “being deviant.”

The news spreads about the deviant act, and the person learns that people are talking “behind their back” about their behavior.

The person begins to develop a “tarnished identity” or feel that they have a “bad reputation” (they become labeled).

A person experiences public shunning or “exclusion” for his/her reputation by former friends and peers.

A person experiences “inclusion” and is welcomed by new “deviant peers.” He/she becomes “cool” in certain circles for the behavior/label/identity.

Others begin to treat him/her differently and his/her credibility is often impacted.

The individual internalizes the label and “becomes” the deviant.

Each person has many identities and social selves that they are juggling at any one time; many of you are students, parents, career people, military personnel, husbands, wives, daughters or sons, all at the same time. Some of these identities are more important in particular social settings; for example, at your child’s school, it is much more relevant that you are a mother than an engineer. However, some of our identities are “master statuses” that we cannot step away from, even for a moment. For example, in America, race “master status,” whether you are “being” a mother, an engineer, a student or a vacationer, you will be doing this as a “White American” or a “Black American” or whatever racial designation you carry with you, because in our culture, race is extremely important and is almost always taken note of by others. Deviant identities often have a “master status” character about them. For example, the documentary “Fat and Proud” details how being “fat” is something that people are “being” in every social setting, and others respond to this identity, whether it is at the gym, at a club, or on a job interview. According to your text, “master statuses” are linked to “auxiliary traits” (social preconceptions) that people associate with the self. Think about the girls in the documentary drawing each of their “slobs” as overweight persons.

When people are labeled as deviant, they may experience devaluation and exclusion in society. According to Irving Goffman, people who are labeled with potentially stigmatizing deviance fall into two categories: “the discreditable” and “the discredited” (p. 255, Adler & Adler). People who can “pass” as normal or hide their “deviant” stigma are “discreditable,” as they can be discredited if their deviant characteristics are revealed, while those who cannot hide their stigma are “discredited.” Individuals use a number of different strategies for adapting to deviant identities and managing stigmas, some of which include “passing” as normal or “covering,” while others strive to “normalize” deviant identities by bringing them forward for discussion and often self-deprecating humor. Deviant stigmas can also be managed by collective effort through movements like “The Fat Acceptance Movement,” Alcoholics Anonymous, MBLA, nudists, etc. These groups are either designed to give those labeled as “deviant” a place to belong, to provide a framework and social setting for the creation of a particular deviant identity, or to attempt to normalize a given deviant status in the larger society. Consider how groups that you belong to—which may not be deviant in nature—foster, promote or encourage a given dimension of your identity.I
