Read this page very carefully. Review it as you keep working on your essay. Everything on this page is important.
Using an article from Part 1 of the Reading Pool and your own personal experience, you will make an argument about some real-life issue. The Reading Pool discusses lots of real-life issues, both personal and political, so choose an article that you can relate to or that has some connection to your life.
You are required to use an article from Part 1 of the Reading Pool, quoting carefully to avoid plagiarism, and you are required to use some personal experiences that you have had or witnessed. It is okay to agree or disagree with your chosen article. This essay is not “about” your chosen article; the article is just a source; your own experiences are another source; this essay is about some real-life issue, and you must make an argument about the issue. Look for the areas that are debatable, and then take a stand for your side, drawing on evidence from your life or your article.
Here are some brainstorming questions. Do not attempt to answer 100% of these questions in your essay! They are just here to help you start thinking of ideas.
• What argument is the article making?
• Does the article imply a problem? Does it offer a solution?
• What is your relation to the article; do you agree, disagree, or are you unsure?
• What evidence or experience supports your opinion?
• How is your experience different from the author’s?
• How important is this issue in real life?
• Is there any solution to our problems?
Remember that the more detail you include, the better. Do not speak in vague generalizations. Instead, use specific examples from the text and from your own life. Include at least one actual story from your life.
This essay must include a clear thesis statement and overarching argument, stated in the introduction, as well as ample supporting evidence pulled from your article and from your own life.
Outside sources?
You may choose to use sources in addition to your experience and your Reading Pool article, but you are not required or expected to. If you do, you must be very careful to cite them properly and avoid plagiarism.
Guidelines:
This essay will be minimum 4 full pages, double-spaced, plus a correctly formatted works-cited page. Use correct MLA formatting throughout. Use size 12, Times New Roman font, and set all margins for one inch. Failure to adhere to these guidelines will result in a reduced grade for the assignment.
Failure to include a works cited page will result in a severely reduced grade for the assignment.
Reflection paragraph:
Throughout the class discussions, you will get lots of advice on your essay, and you are expected to apply it. Therefore, your finished essay must include a reflection on exactly what advice you got and applied, and how.
At the very end of your essay, even after the Works Cited, you must add 1-2 paragraphs describing what revisions you made based on the discussion feedback. This can be anything that you worked on as a direct result of your feedback in the discussions. An essay that does not contain this section will receive a lowered grade.
Plagiarism:
It is your responsibility to know what constitutes plagiarism and to avoid it. Any essay found to contain even one sentence of plagiarism will receive an instant F. Additionally, any paper that gets over 10% similarity on the plagiarism software will receive an instant F.
Grading:
The possible grades for this essay are “Pass Plus,” “Pass Minus,” “Fail Plus,” and “Fail Minus.” The criteria are clearly listed on the assignment rubric. To view the rubric, please go to “Grades,” click on this assignment, and click “Show Rubric” in the upper right. Read the rubric for yourself, and judge your own essay against it.
Due:
All due dates for assignments are listed on the Home page (in the Course Summary section) and in your Canvas Calendar. Essays that are one day late will lose 25% of total possible points. If an essay is more than one day late, it will lose 50% of total possible points.

Herschel Walker – Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)
“Multiple Personality Disorder”

1) To complete this assignment, you will write a case study of a client who meets the criteria for one of the disorders listed in the DSM-5.
2) As you complete this assignment, please keep in mind these guidelines: clients often meet the criteria for more than one DSM-5 diagnosis. If there is more than one diagnosis, then you must discuss these in your paper.
3) Follow these steps: You may use these areas in your paper and bullet each section for the case study.
a) Client Background: In this section of your paper you will discuss why the client has come to see you. Then you need to discuss the background such as history of any health, mental illnesses. You are going to have to address their education, work, family history and current relationships. Is there any history of substance abuse? Are there any issues in their development? Please make sure that you are clear and specific as you describe your client’s struggles or symptoms (imagine someone else is going to read your case to double-check to make sure you assigned the right diagnosis) 1 PAGE
b) Diagnosis: After reviewing the background of your client, you will then provide a diagnosis. In this section, discuss the diagnosis and discuss the criteria to meet this diagnosis. What are the symptoms/CRITERIA one must have to be diagnosed with the disorder? Does this disorder overlap with another diagnosis? You may want to discuss the prognosis for this diagnosis. 1 1/2 PAGE
c) Rational for your diagnosis: Discuss in this area, what are the signs or what was told to you by the client that allowed you to make this diagnosis? .Provide a brief rationale as to why you feel your assigned diagnosis is appropriate or accurate. What has been the ultimate cause or causes for this diagnosis? Is there a chemical imbalance and if so, what chemical is talking about depression. 1 PAGE
d) Treatments: Discuss what treatments you would recommend and how they will benefit this client. Be sure to explain how this treatment would work for this client. Maybe the client needs CBT. How would this benefit the client? 1 PAGE
E) Final recommendations for your client: If they are using substances, would you recommend replacing with another or stop all together. If they are in a bad relationship, what would you recommend for them. IF YOU DISCUSS A TREATMENT PLAN SUCH AS CBT, THEN YOU NEED TO DESCRIBE WHAT THIS IS AND HOW IT WILL BE IMPLEMENTED. 1 PAGE

One of your sources must be a journal article which addressed the disorder. You must use this article in your paper when describing symptoms and treatments.
12-point font. A minimum of 3 sources must be used. APA must be used when citing.
You may use DSM and journal articles for your paper. I do not mind internet sources as long as they are reliable and valid areas.
