An introduction that summarizes the issue and clearly states how a change can benefit individuals in a community

In order to write a successful proposal essay, it is imperative that you carefully consider an issue for which you will offer a solution. This can be a problem on campus or even within the community from which you originate. Whatever you choose to focus on, make sure that it is not a broad issue that would require more expertise than you may offer in order to solve. Consider who your audience will be for this task. Who are the officials in position to make the changes you will suggest? Make sure that the tone of your essay is suitable for your particular audience.
You will need substantial research in order to complete your proposal. You will likely need sources to back up the validity of the issue, as well as information to prove that your suggestions for change are not randomly chosen. The sources you choose for support must be suitable for an academic setting. You are required to cite sources using appropriate MLA or APA format throughout your essay.
The proposal essay will include:
1. An introduction that summarizes the issue and clearly states how a change can benefit individuals in a community
2. An analysis of the problem, including any relevant background information
3. Proposed solutions that make up the bulk of the essay.
Essay Parameters:
750 words
Times New Roman, 12 font
One-inch margins at top, bottom, left, and right sides of the page
MLA or APA format
Thesis statement in the introduction
Creative title that directly relates to your thesis

Exoplanets

The subject of this week’s discussion is all about exoplanets and the search for extraterrestrial life, what they are (exoplanets and life), and what techniques are being used to find and confirm their existence. Here are some hints and rules of the game. Space Weather (https://spaceweather.com/) provides a good source of information and NASA news, New York Times Science, or any press release from science agencies such as AAS, NASA, or Universities. And don’t forget Ask an Astronomer (http://curious.astro.cornell.edu/). What you must post:
-1 -There are two broad techniques used to identify exoplanets. Write a paragraph explaining how each technique uniquely identifies an exoplanet. – Due on April 31
2 – The James Webb Space Telescope launched last December will look for fingerprints of life in a few exoplanets. Use a paragraph to summarize how the James Webb Space Telescope will attempt to identify life in exoplanets. Provide links to the sources. – Due on April 31

RESEARCH PAPER PROPOSAL
The research paper proposal is a short paper where you announce what your topic is going to be, review what general knowledge you already have, and indicate the tentative direction you are going in as a thesis.
Paper should be 400-500 words. Title your paper.
First two paragraphs should review background. What is your topic, as clearly and specifically as can be presented? What do you know about it so far? What are possible alternative interpretations of that topic – controversy around that topic, or positions other readers might take?
Third paragraph should be your tentative thesis – what you think the direction of your argument is, and why so far. You can write this paper in the first person “I plan to argue that…” You could also state your research question before the thesis.
Final paragraph should indicate the direction of your research – what you plan on doing from that point on, what you need specifically to learn to understand your topics, i.e. “I would like to find statistics on how many women graduate with a high school diploma in Uganda.”
We are attempting to produce half of your paper. Guidelines overall for the research paper are on blackboard and you should be following your proposal’s main idea.
1000 word minimum. You may go beyond. This is typed and with a title.
You should have an introduction of 1-3 paragraphs discussing necessary background and moving the reader logically towards your thesis. Consider and perhaps include what is your “research Question”, i.e. what are you trying to prove or argue.
Develop the essay beyond your intro and you should have several (more than one. ideally at least 3) body paragraphs that support your thesis with evidence and argument.
You should have cited at least two (perhaps more) of your sources, likely in the body of your essay.
This is not a “rough” draft. The 1000 words should be well-organized, coherent arguments that are clear, proofread and edited.
You should not have “finished” your argument. You have more to add, you may or may not have presented counterarguments/refutations / and you won’t have reached your conclusion. That’s ok. Finish wherever you feel comfortable after you reach 1000 words

classical history

Texts: The Essential Odyssey and selected passages from Classics of Western Thought
The tale of Odysseus’s travels and travails has become one of the enduring classics of the Western
tradition as well as an endearing symbol of the achievements of the ancient Greeks. Using at least
two different primary source selections from ancient Greece in the Classics of Western Thought
book, i.e. found in Chapters 1-13, please discuss how the themes and events of The Odyssey reflect
and highlight the spirit of ancient Greek society as well as relate to experiences and themes of our
modern world. Your discussion should reference some relevant aspects of Greek customary beliefs,
social forms, and or material traits as developed in class and in the readings. For example, if you
decide to include in your essay the theme of justice, you need to demonstrate and explain how this
theme is addressed in The Odyssey and compare it to how other ancient Greek writers dealt with
this theme of justice in two other readings from ancient Greece in the CWT book, again found in
Chapters 1-13. Be sure to identify and discuss specific examples from the source material to
support your analysis. Please note that, while you are required to make use of two other readings
from the CWT book, the heart of your essay should provide a clear indication about what can be
learned about ancient Greek society and about our own world from reading The Essential Odyssey.

Details: This portion of your research paper invites you to consider elements of the college environment that are important for your student population. Citing at least 6 articles (you can include the ones you used in earlier papers), describe the college environment for your population in about 2-3 pages. After reading and analyzing the research articles you have found, draw out 2-3 major themes from the research related to college environments for the population you are studying. Use subheadings to identify those themes within your paper. You don’t need to answer all of these questions, but here are a few that might help you think about how you are framing your paper: What do we know about the group’s success in college? What are trends you are finding in research concerning how college affects the population? What are common barriers for success or potential opportunities for success? How does the population describe the college environment?
